Don't forget that as from tomorrow 1/10/14 it is no longer a requirement to display a valid tax disc in your car!!

I wonder who had the dubious honour of being the last person to be booked for the now non-existent offence of not displaying a valid tax disc?
But it is still an offence until 23:59 tonight!
Today I have seen 2 cars and a van not displaying a tax disc, not even the silly self print ones.

I picked up a new car on Sat 20th. They sent me a tax disc that I have only had to display for 10 days
It might be worth something as one of the last to be issued!
I wonder if anyone took delivery of a car today?

You are allowed a grace period when you pick up a new car as the tax disc is sent to your house and not to the dealer. I wonder if the DVLA stopped sending discs out a few days ago as tomorrow came within the grace period
The DVLA ran out of people about 3-4 weeks so the last discs were printed on plain paper instead of the normal perforated discs.

Indeed. Mine had to be cut out!!
I see on ebay there are 1000s of people selling disc holders. Guess they now have lots of unsellable stock. Mine still has the boring Clevedon Mazda holder (Its not even a Mazda, and god knows how long that's been in the window as the bloke I bought it off had it for 6 years)

Poor traffic wardens, having one less thing to be able to issue a ticket on.
You can put a bet on our local traffic warden coming past at 2330 tonight. He's previously been spotted at 2200 at night on a weekday and 7am on a Sunday.
I've seen neighbours ticketed at night, and there car was causing no obstruction or safety issues, but we have the most pointless double yellow lines ever on our road.
Been out and removed my tax disc and replaced it with a bit of paper saying 'TAX IN POST' just like my Mum and Dad used to use in the 1970s!

My Polo got retaxed last week, and that disc will be staying in the windscreen indefinitely.

Perhaps the disc holder can be used for other display items, such as National Trust stickers that are sent inside each annual year book.

The disc holder should be used to display a valid certificate of insurance, any car not displaying one should be lifted and crushed so that those of us that use the roads legally are not being taken for fools
The reason DVLA have given for withdrawing tax discs is that it saves the tax payer money and everything is now on an electronic system monitored by countless ANPR cameras. So why are the continuing with this full month nonsense? Why is it not like insurance where you are covered from the day you pay for it?

I think I have a full 12 years of tax discs for my car so I'll probably leave them all in the holder as they are now.
I retaxed the car a week ago but they didn't bother sending a new disc out as it only takes effect today.

The insurance status of the vehicle can now be checked as easily as the tax status and MOT status by means of ANPR cameras both roadside and in police vehicles. There is really no need to display anything on the vehicle any more

It's quite easy to write economically with the truth so why not economically with the size ?
Just in case you're being even the tiniest bit serious, I think that basic details would be sufficient rather than the entire policy document

Here in Bristol we've now got hatchbacks with cameras on the roof driving around. They claim to be parking monitoring vehicles, but spend an awful lot of time driving up and down roads with no parking restrictions. Do these tie in with the other cameras I wonder, checking what's on the road?

I think the MOT expiry should be displayed in the windscreen, a new car would have a date 3 years from the day it was registered.
The insurance idea wouldnt work because I have a multi car (and any other vehicle) policy so how would I go about displaying it in every car I drive?
