We use it maybe 3 or 4 times a year, and its not pleasant, and when theres a cold NE wind blowing off the fens there is no shelter on the platforms.

Yes, was there on Sunday night, always very bleak, nothing to interrupt the wind between there and the Urals.

Ulverston is looking very run down these days with many panes of glass missing on the canopies, boarded up windows, weeds hanging from the guttering and the unused parts of the platforms very overgrown. Such a shame as if it wasn’t so neglected it would be a beautiful Victorian station.

Stroud needs a coat of paint on its canopy.

The bridge which was REALLY  tatty is being renewed at the moment.

Luton is similar, another inadequate 60s? station.

Luton station dates from 1939, other than the later addition of the current platforms 1 and 2. It’s been changed over the years but rarely for the better and desperately need a complete rebuild to be fit for the 21st century.

Longport, though that's as much to do with the derelict area around it as the station itself.

Rose grove near Burnley has always been very rundown, but again another which is in a very rundown area . In fact quite a number of stations on the Preston - colne line are in need of some attention . Nelson, lostock hall and Mill Hill to add to the list .

On the latter point, the same could be said for the whole of Luton. The problem is that there seems to have been a tendency where anything done to try and improve Luton actually ends up making the place look even more of an abomination than it already is. On which basis, it might be best just to leave the station as it is, better the devil and all that.

All the Burnley area stations apart from Manchester Road could do with a spruce up, at the very least. In the long term, a 2tph electrified stopper Preston to Colne would be the best solution.

Perth (Highland side)....an absolutely disgraceful dereliction and neglect of a fine historic listed building.

I was just about to post similar. I’m starting to wonder just how safe the canopy there is. It’s already an absolute sieve in the rain and one of the footbridges from platform 4 to 3 in particular looks like it’s held together with pigeon **** and rust.

Stockton, when I last visited it some year as ago (it might have been improved since) was a disgrace for a fairly significant town. Barely any facilities beyond rails and platforms.

As a local who can just remember the days when it had it's roof, it's definitely a shell of its former glory. There's a TVM on the platform where you enter the station and a couple of shelters, plus the accessible bridge but yes. not much really.

Lots of grey concrete, the abandoned post office stuf , the damp underpass and the grimy fish tank that is the main hall.

There is some remnants of the LBSCR station if you look carefully though

Yeah, roofs propped up with scaffolding IIRC.

Though I guess being cast iron and between two running lines, a more proper repair is difficult.

Although to be pedantic, it's actually remnants of the SE&CR station (nee SER).

But yes, those are definitely the best bits !

Newhaven harbour. Even though attempts to make it a bit more pleasant like art and beehives add a splash of colour, it still appears very grim. Can't put my finger on why, maybe it's the walls or the houses opposite
