Does anybody know what freight will be passing through Tamworth tomorrow if anyone has any timings that would be good. Will there be 86's maybe? Does the high level cross country station have freight going through? Where is the best place to stand on both Tamworth stations Any help or info would be greatly appreciated, sorry for all the questions i've never been Tamworth before but i've heard it's a good place to see trains :) Thanks Chris

Hi Chris.

If you are lucky you will get some 86s, but I believe there are none actually booked to pass during daylight hours. You might get a couple turn up in the place of a 90 or 66 though.
Through the low level you will get lots of Pendolnos and 350s, and mainly intermodal freight to and from Crewe, Trafford Park and Scotland. Expect 66s, 90s and 92s mainly of DB, Freightliner and DRS.
Through the high level, you will get lots more varied freight workings. Should get a 60 on tanks heading north around 14.00, although this working may be a 66 now, I'm not sure. You will get a fair few coal trains from DB, Freightliner and Fastline. Should be some steel and other bits and bobs knocking around too.

As for where to stand, you are guaranteed that wherever you stand you will miss the best working of the day, so just go for wherever you think is best. I like the low level northbound platform for southbound freight shots, but then you miss all the stuff up top altogether, so it is hard to say.

Have a good day out :)

If you stand on the steps on platform 4 (I think it is) you can see pretty much everything, it's the platform opposite the lift, not by it!! :)

Tamworth is good in the fact that you usually get announcements warning you of approaching freight traffic in advance.
