Tamper at Southampton

I was amazed this evening to see a Tamper parked in a short length of track south of the main line at Southampton, accessed by a trailing # over from the Down, which stops just before the tunnel mouth. In all the years I have known Central station I have never seen anything parked there before. I suppose it was being readied for engineering work over the weekend.

Not that unusual, there is a big possession this weekend {and i'm not rostered :cheers:} so it's probably stabled there to save time.

I have often wondered what that spur siding was for...looks like a Tamper one, but may have been a loco siding in the past perhaps?
