Loco No.1 ‘Tal-y-Llyn’ will be taken out of service after this event for a major overhaul, so with No.3 ‘Sir Haydn’ returning from the Vale of Rheidol after it’s lengthy overhaul and No.4 ‘Edward Thomas’ having its work complete it will give us the chance to run all six in steam which has not happened for many years!
Double heading will be the theme for the day for all passenger trains. Original Talyllyn locomotives Nos 1 ‘Talyllyn’ and No.2 ‘Dolgoch’ will be in charge of the Railway’s vintage carriage set. Ex-Corris Railway No.3 ‘Sir Haydn’ will be partnered by its sister ex-Corris loco No.4 ‘Edward Thomas’ two return trips up and down the line, while No.6 ‘Douglas’, in its RAF Centenary livery, will be matched with locomotive No.7 ‘Tom Rolt’.
Diesel locomotives No.5 ‘Midlander’ and No.9 ‘Alf’ will be in action with their own engineering workings. Meanwhile the newest additions to the Talyllyn locomotive fleet, Baguley diesels No. 11 ‘Trecwn’ and No.12 ‘Sir Cadvan’, will also be double heading a special passenger service. The former having just re-entered service after the fitting of air-brakes and also repainting into a variation on the standard Talyllyn green livery. Network Rail Chairman, Sir Peter Hendy, will be formally re-naming Trecwn during the morning.
TV presenter and all round Rail fan, Tim Dunn, will be on hand to join in the action, and share it on social media for those who can't be there.
As a finale for the day there will be a gathering of every loco on the Railway at Tywyn Wharf, before a final cavalcade of all six steam locomotives between Tywyn Wharf and Tywyn Pendre stations.
