Hi all,

Just been looking at trains from INV - MAN out of general interest and I found a site called takethetrain.com. If I enter my journey details it throws up some rather unusual routing, including INV - ABD - EDB - MAN instead of just going in a more or less straight line sans Aberdeen. Does anyone know why it does this?

Inverness - Manchester Route Via Lancaster walk-on fares are perfectly valid on the route you described.

Dates were outbound 1/4/2013 return at 3/4/2013. It seems unusual to route someone to the east of Scotland and then round to the south instead of going in a straight line down the Highland Mainline. It's pretty indirect compared to cutting south on the HML to EDB (or indeed GQS and then onto GLC).

But having said that I didn't find it that unusual for Expedia to offer me London - Cape Town via Dubai on Emirates; fly southeast to DXB, change planes and then fly southwest into Africa instead of flying direct from LHR - CPT on Virgin or BA flying more or less down the middle of Africa.

That's not bizarre at all, most (if not all) flows that include validity between Edinburgh & Inverness are valid via Aberdeen, unless routed specifically via: Aviemore.
