Table seats

Hi folks,

What are the chances of getting one of the unreserved table seats on a HST to Cornwall at 10am ish on a Saturday in the school summer holidays? 2 adults and 2 children going to falmouth. Will try and get advance tickets with reservations when released but if I'm beaten to it, don't want to end up with single seats apart.

You will need to book as soon as the tickets are released to get a chance of a Table Seat.

If you get airline seats, they will try where possible to group 4 together

Book ASAP.

Either use the function on online booking engines to specify table reservations, or try at your local booking office.

There are also seating plans available online if it helps for you to check.

My best advice would be to buy a weekend first upgrade and arrive early for your train. Then you'll get a table of 4 aligned with the window.

If you book AP ticket fairly soon after they're released and you specify a table seat you should be reserved at one. Otherwise if you're ready to board the train as soon as it gets announced at Paddington then you should be able to get one of the unreserved tables.

Book by phone as soon as tickets go on sale and hope you get a helpful operator or try for weekend first as has been suggested.

Sadly FGW have made their HSTs far less family friendly by taking out most of the tables - even in the Family Coach.

Agreed, not many tables. Family coach is long gone though!

The suggestion about Weekend First is good advice.

Weekend First can only be purchased after boarding. Get on, find a seat in First, the Guard will find you soon enough. £20 a head from Pad.

(At present) coach E and F are totally unreserved. F may be First Class or Standard Class depending on the make-up of the set.

If buying Advance Tickets, do the math, it might be cheaper to buy First Class Advance tickets (guaranteed table) than Standard Class and £20 upgrade.

Blame the poor souls who have to stand between London and Reading, the tables were taken out to appease (relatively) short-distance commuters.

Go 1st Class. You'll get the table and more space. Std will be rammed at that time of year even if you do get the seats you want.

And you'll be surprised at the cost. Not much different.
