Hi everybody, Apologies in advance as I'm completely new to all of this jargon. I have acquired an interview with Tyne and Wear Metro, the letter states there will be an aptitude test, now forgive me if i'm wrong but iv'e read multiple different posts on multiple different sites stating that exactly what is involved depends on company to company and weather its light rail/heavy rail? I was wondering if anybody who has done these tests for Metro before could shed some light as to which tests will be included? -

Sorry for the lack of knowledge!

Much appreciated!

i also recieved a letter inviting me to an interview on Friday! So nervous i hate interviews heres hoping i wont crumble on the day like i frequently do haha. Well done to anybody else who has got this far! :D

Good Luck and all the best for your interview today!

I was wondering if anybody who has done these tests for Metro before could shed some light as to which tests will be included?

I am also curious, I have read that it is paper based but have not managed to find anything regarding the content.

I cant help but feel nervous during interviews and always seem to sell myself short regardless of my knowledge and my experiences. Hopefully all the prep work will pay off.

Pretty sure the test at initial interview and pretty basic like reading timetables and rosters. How many metro stations (60) . I wouldn't worry about those

Thanks for the input. Have you taken these previously or is information you know to be factually correct?. I don't mean to sound rude or pry but I would just hate to mess up if I followed advice on opinion rather than fact :)

I have a very nervous and exciting few days ahead of me until the interview.

Just incase he doesn't have chance to get back to you, he's a driver on the Metro.

Good luck with all your interviews.

Congrats to those who have interviews, I have also got an interview which I'm quite excited about. I have read through the thread and there is some very useful hints. I'm curious when it states about aptitude tests, are we also talking verbal and numerical reasoning tests? Does this include the Group Bourdon tool?

Is this the first layer of assessment or are there more?

Considering the start date is September and most folks need to give 1 months notice for employment i'm just wondering how many stages there could be?

Thanks for any info!

Had my interview and test last week. They told me had 2700 applications sifted to 210 interviews and they are looking to send 96 down to Doncaster for assessments and interview also said no start date yet for new course which is normally 8 people. Thought I'd done well interview so hoping to get to next stage

The application paper sift was brutal then going off them figures! I'm assuming that once the first group of 8 have been started on the 1st course, everyone else who passed both the interview and tests in Doncaster will be held in the 'talent pool' for the next course of 8 and so on etc.... this is how I'm trying to look at it anyway. I'm up tomorrow for interview so keeping fingers crossed everything goes well!

Hi all the best with the application. I'm guessing we have all done something to impress them to get this far!. Did they say if they were looking to take the top scoring 96 candidates for the Doncaster assessment or did they say they had another scoring matrix?. I have my interview on Thursday ??????

Well I've had my interview today. I think I did well on the test but I'm really unsure about the interview. For those who wish to know they said that they didn't know if it was the top 90 they were looking to send to Doncaster or if there was an additional pass mark. They also said they were looking to let people know either way by7th of Aug. Best of luck to all those who applied

Well done!. I also got my pack today inviting me down to Doncaster on the 15th of this month. I work for the emergency services and our shifts and holidays are published months in advance and that week I'm working night shifts that I can't change. I'm really worried as it says they have a 10 working day cancellation policy and may not have tha ability to re book me. I was really hoping I would have been given more notice to try and sort things out at work. I've sent an email off asking for advice.. fingers crossed.

Got my huge envelope too! (Very exciting) I go down in August too, not a lot of notice either but as luck would have it I'm off that day so don't have to try and re-arrange. Now it's just full steam ahead with practice tests until then....I hear the pass rate is not that high for these psychometric tests so the more practice I can squeeze in between now and the 16th the better! Congrats to everyone who got huge envelopes too.

For obvious reasons ill not be giving anything away, but it was no where near as intense as i expected. the day was quite laid back and i enjoyed it.

Well done BROOT! :D

Contact will be made with all candidates after the last assessment day which is 21st September!

Glad you enjoyed the day. However, what may seem laid back for some may not be the case for others... A clear head and focus is a must for all attending 8-)

Absolutely, i wouldn't want to give someone the wrong impression.

Do you know what the next step is? Do we just have the managers interview then medical then into the holding pool?

I didn't find it relaxing was very intense !!

But plenty of practice and wanting the job so much got me through - started with 5 of us 3 sent home after first three tests, so only two of us completed it.

A very long day with test after test and interview but totally worth it and proud of myself for a pass ! - only job I've ever wanted . So excited for the future

All candidates will be contacted by the end of September informing them of the nexts steps. You have now passed all stages of the initial interview process and if successful onto the next course an offer of employment would be dependant on a thorough medical examination including Drug and Alcohol testing, employment references and eligibility to work in the UK.

If you are placed into the holding bank for the future recruitment, then an additional interview with the Traincrew Manager will be included to the above. However, this is a lot more relaxed than the interview you had at The Royal Station Hotel and DB Schenker.

Hi everyone!

First post on here! I attended Doncaster today and pleased to say that I passed!

Obviously I can't go into detail, but I would say for anyone that has a date set, try not to panic about it and try to keep calm. I didn't find it hard but I found it very mentally draining, and it would be very easy to lose your focus.

Good luck for all of those who are travelling down soon!

I am in the process of booking my train ticket for my assessment day and was wondering if any one had any input as to what time the day is wrapped up.
assuming you manage to get to the very end of the day what time do they let you leave?. Is the mini bus service from the station a return service of is it up to you to make your way from the testing centre.

I was also wondering if any one could clarify some confusion i have about the situational judgment test. I have read that this is not a pass or fail test and is used to decide what questions you are asked duruing the MMI but this is also contradicted by others saying they have failed the SJT and that the MMI asked the same questions just worded differently. I was wondering if any one has any clarification if the SJT is a pass for fail test.

Thanks for any Help

Dave
