Cheers,
James.

Most things I say to you are rubbish. But it was probably on diversion to Bristol, what time was it?

Unlikely.

What makes you say that?

Coming from Salisbury it seems like a perfectly decent explanation considering there are still some 159s to refurb. It won't have been diverted due to engineering as things are back to normal along the Avon Valley.

Why would there be no report of it going for refurb?

Welll it was the only train that past 5872, not saying you are wrong :)

Liam - I said to DJC_158 it could be that (as he saw it from his work place) on MSN but I didnt think 159s were going to doncaster, but I thought I read on there 158s are going up there ??

The SWT 158's have already been refurbished. Maybe if could elaborate as to whether it was a 2-car or 3-car would help.

Mark, I did say at the start that DJC_158 didnt know. Dont take that as a nit-pick mate I'm just saying thats all :)

If nothing is due for a refurbishment the only answer I know is that it was on diversion for some reason, but very unlikey though...

Almost nigh-on impossible it was a diversion.

Most likely it was a pair of SWT 158s running to Derby or Nottingham for use by East Midlands Trains. The numbers were 158881 and 158882.

Not all the 159s have been refurbished, but they run via London when going to Doncaster.

Ah ha, yes it could have been then, guess it was probably via oxford or cheltenham, reversing at Swindon but that route would generally via Yate anyway

That was my thought as well. Possibly swapping the 2 units at EMT (currently 886 & 887), with these seen units.

Update:

Looks like indeed it was 881 & 882, replacing 886 & 887 which came back down to their local area sometime during start of May - http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?p=212927#post212927
