Hello everyone, I've finally got a job on SWT after 10 years of trying. My question is when I go to my training at Basingstoke will I get hotel accommodation. I might sound a bit cheeky but some companies will provide you with some where to stay.

Also what does the training consist of and what are the times/days of the training.

Thank you all for taking your time to read this.

Also this forum is amazing with everyone being very friendly and helpful.

No you wont, as their network is quite contained (Weymouth crews might disagree ;)) you are expected to make your way to and from Basingstoke daily.

Where do you live and where did you say you lived when you applied?

The training days are nine to five officially but you normally get finished a bit earlier.

Also this forum is amazing with everyone being very friendly and helpful.

Not read many of my posts then! ;)

Cheers 455driver

I live in Bournemouth and I'll be working at Dorchester and can't wait. I've got my medical to get through tomorrow but I don't do drink or drugs so should pass.

I've looked at train times and it takes about 2 hours to get there but it will be worth it in the end

You can nominate 2 stations for parking but there are a lot of stations they wont allow, you can use the time on the train to go over what you have done that day but a word of advice do not read ahead and only go over what you have already learned, if you read ahead you will make some assumptions which you will have to unlearn when you learn the proper meaning, a lot of the rules are dependant on other rules and the way it is taught will make them all easier to understand.

The length and type of training will vary depending on the job you have taken.

All the trainers are a good bunch at Basingstoke and will help you all the way along if needed, watch that Nigel bloke though his sense of humour is dryer than the Sahara desert! ;)

Thank you so much mate you've been a great help.

I'll be a station cleaner but looking to progress after my 6 months probation.

Unless your a driver or a guard I doubt you'll bump into Nigel, he spends most of his time in the 'map room'. ;)

As 455driver has already said training is done within office hours and is Mon-Fri nine to five. If you will be working at Dorchester I'll imagine you'll either be in the ticket office or on the platform so I would reckon you would be expected to commute to the training school (or 'Academy' as they like to call it now ) only for a couple of weeks so I don't think it will be that bad to come from Bournemouth, you may find that some of your on the job coaching will take place there (Bournemouth that is).

Well done though and welcome aboard. :)

Thanks Monty

My dad has been working for SWT for 30 years so far and has always said how much they value us as employees and a fantastic company to work for. Yeah on the platform as a cleaner but it's a foot in the door and loads of opportunities to progress. Thanks for the info.

SWT is a good company to work for and as long as you turn up for work, do your job and dont be silly then you can advance up the tree quite quickly if that is what you want to do.
