SWT stock movement

Hi,

Just saw this go past my window - it was formed of 2x444:

Out of curiosity, does anybody know the purpose of this movement? It seems strange to leave Clapham Yard, go round the Hounslow loop then back into Clapham Yard.

Also, is it actually timed for 224 mph max, or is that a mistake in RTT?

Whilst I can't comment for the speed, there's a number of units the wrong way round. Normally they turn them either by Clapham via Hounslow or it's done by Fratton with a 3-point turn at Hilsea.

It's some sort of a metric/imperial conversion error in the underlying Network Rail data feed; something that's been cropping up for a while now.

224 seems to be shown if 100 mph is meant.
168 crops up if 75 mph is meant, so it looks as though something is interpreting mph as metres per second...

That's what it probably is, a turning move, another is Woking - Aldershot - Guildford - Woking, in addition to the Fratton - Havant - Fareham - Fratton move, one that also happens is via the Kingston loop which achieves the same thing.

Can't have the first class mob walking too far now, can we!:roll:

It's a performance nightmare when they're the wrong way round, trust me! Might seem silly but they won't walk through the train, so it gets held up waiting for them to board...

The Woking massive don't like it when FC on a 159 is at the country end at Waterloo

(Although they don't like it when FC is at the city end as it means they have to walk through the great unwashed of standard class to reach their part of the train)

Which is becoming more common now that trains are running back from Yeovil Junction via Pen Mill and a reversal at Westbury.
