so much for the 5 year internal waiting list I read of on the forums a little while back lol. Does anyone know if they recruit for Weymouth drivers much?

They do recruit for Weymouth but not that much. Basingstoke, Strawbury hill and Waterloo tend to be the common ones. The rest tend to be rare or smaller recruitment drives, ie Fratton.

This is going to sound a bit blunt but it is true, if you want a job then you have to go to where the job is, you cant wait for the job to come to you.

I understand your point 455. Issue is when they require you to live within 45 mins of the depot at the time of application. I have thought about moving towards the capital because I have noticed that there are many oppourtunitys coming up all the time in that area. However the idea of completely upping sticks on a massive gamble that probably won't pay off somehow isn't very appealing to myself. Untill then I shall continue to apply to be companies that actively ask you if you are willing to relocate on the application form.

I was thinking about applying to a guard on SWT, as they appear to be recruiting. Only concern is that....could they at some point in the future, get rid of guards and just have the driver only trains.....

What do people think??

Do you not have family or friends who live within the required distance?
Use their address. ;)

Get applying!
I cant see DOO spreading as much (if at all) any time soon and who is to say that if (and its a bloomin big if) it does who is to say you will still be a guard, SWT are very good at promoting* people to driver.

* not the right word but you get the idea.

Good theory :) would have to live in Salisbury if I were to get it as the idea of commuting the 303 this time of year is hmmmm somewhat to be desired

Have you been for an assessment yet? Some have, myself included and passed but they are unable at present to say when the next stage, (SJE and Multimodal interviews) will take place. Have to remain patient!

I passed my assessment with DBS last September, so that might explain the silence. As you say, stay patient. Thanks.

Yes quite obviously.

Forgive my ignorance, but I assumed you were saying that 158/9 was a separate train and were FWG ones, not SWT ones. Rather than 158 and 159s being what was meant. Not by any means a train buff, but what did you mean if on the one hand you were correcting the OP, yet on the other hand saying he was correct...
