Hi applied for this in Soton central and all it said was £8.75 an hour.
Anyone know if you get any shift allowance/overtime rate/Sunday rate on top??

I believe that sundays are not part of the working week for station staff with SWT and they pay time and a half, also there is a higher rate of pay for overtime and bank holidays.

Same as the ex Thameslink guys then compared to the ex WAGN guys on the Great Northern who's Sundays DO count as part of the working week.

Only if you do shift work.

I'm not 100% sure on the Thameslink but I do know there's a allowance for working Sundays on the GN

Got an assessment for this next week any help would be great,just a bit concerened that the money is not the best. about £1,000 a month take home?:cry:

You get free travel on SWT and 75% off all other TOC's.

I think the £1k a month take home is standard, I will only be getting slightly more as my role is based in London and not Southampton, what were you expecting to be paid?

Earning more than that at the moment but circumstances mean I need a change of jobs:cry:Free travel...etc makes up for it a little.

Unfortunately I couldn't tell you more as I haven't yet started My start date is near the end of May!

I agree that free travel makes up for it, imagine those with Season tickets who pay thousands! Its also a job that you will enjoy if you have any interest in the railways!

On SWT, Yes Unfortunately I don't have an other half so that doesn't help me

I think there maybe something in the terms that spouses free travel can't be used as travel to work, only as leisure travel.

Thanks, I hope your assessment goes well, mine was for Gateline so I can't give you much advice as I assume Station Assistants have different testing, mine was ticket checking and basic comprehension (taking info from text).

If you pass the assessment then you should get an interview with the local station manager, then if you pass you do a medical check and convictions disclosure and get your offer of employment.

Thanks, I hope your assessment goes well, mine was for Gateline so I can't give you much advice as I assume Station Assistants have different testing, mine was ticket checking and basic comprehension (taking info from text).

I didn't realise you have a CRB check?? it didn't say that on the appliaction form?

Hmm you are right, it may not have said it on the application form, but all SWT roles require a Basic disclosure at minimum, so if you didn't lie about convictions on the application form then you should be fine, as they do say that having a conviction doesn't necessarily stop you getting the job!

You have to request the disclosure yourself and then send it to SWT Recruitment in Basingstoke, I have applied for mine and waiting the up to 14 days until it is processed!

SWT staff also get free travel on East Midland Trains as they're Stagecoach too now. Also I believe they get 75% off on Wight Link, have to confirm that though. The spouse and any dependents under 16 or in full time education also get the same perks, although only for leisure purposes and not for communiting to school/college/Uni or work.

It depends what the conviction is for and how long ago etc. Certain roles are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act too, althyough something like station staff wont be. If it's classed as spent under the ROA then chances are it'll be okay.

Yes that's the one, it can take up to 14 days though!
