We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team of Rail Community Officers. Working in conjunction with the British Transport Police you will work to help provide a secure working environment for employees and customers, enabling them to go about their business without fear of violence, intimidation, or harassment. This means deterring antisocial behaviour, enforcing railway byelaws, reporting people for potential prosecution, and exercising certain police powers.

Does anyone have any experience of this job? Do you get any travel perks?

Basically a Byelaw Enforcement Officer.

You will have to caution and PACE offenders for a range of byelaws from feet on seats to fraudulent travel, maybe Penalty Fares depending on training.

You would get TOCNE travel facilities as long as your 'part time' hours are enough to qualify, (off the top of my head maybe 20 hours per week??).

Basically a railway 'Bouncer'.

Yes, and yes again. Pretty much what First Class says. You will be working for SWT directly, although you'll be Accredited under the Railway Safety Accreditation Scheme (RSAS) by the BTP. The Accreditation allows certain Police powers in order to deal with certain Anti-Social issues and otrher offences (namely issuing Penalty Notices for Disorder for £50 and £80 depending on the offence criteria). Also, solely a TOC thing, and not due to accreditation, you'll be able to report suspected offenders for byelaw offences and Regulation of Railways act offences etc. You will also get free travel on all SWT and Island line train services, as well as on East Midlands Trains, and 75% off other comapny's services. I believe hours are 25-pw. The job is on a par with that of a PCSO and other Accredited staff such as Southeastern Trains' Railway Enforcement Officer and Southern's Railway Neighbourhood Officer. Bouncer of the railway? A little maybe, although there's much more to it than just 'doing' people, lol.
