The actual colours and arrangement are only part of the livery designer's work, they also have to take account of the practicalities of how they are applied and used, along with a consistency not only across different types of stock with different shapes but also an overall approach to vehicles, print, and such like.

In the old days of paint such an issue might be having maybe 4 colours meeting at one point. Each would take 24 hours to dry so that's 4 days instead of one the vehicle was out of service. Nowadays many liveries are applied by adhesive plastics, produced by printing machines, which have overcome this as well as making redoing the scheme straightforward.

If you look up Ray Stenning on the web you'll find pictures of someone who still looks like the 1970s art school student that he of course once was, and that he has a penchant for appearing in publicity pictures of his various new schemes in his underpants! However, the skills of the design team he has put together are second to none, and an absolute world away from the old British Rail or National Bus Company overall drab single colours - which are of course what he grew up with and must have despised.

I'm quite surprised. No-one's called for the return of NSE livery- you lot are slipping! Anyway, NSE livery. And the whole NSE concept. Bring it back (with a suitable contrast door approach)

I actually think that the SWT white looks very much like an updated NSE livery anyway.
