Yes, all drivers have to attain the same level of competency.

Maintenance Depot Drivers do exactly the same psychometric tests as mainline drivers the only difference is that your qualification expires after 5 years as a MDD so you'll still need to resit the tests if you apply for another driving position after 5 years. While if you were a mainline driver you would get to keep your psychometric test pass and would not have to resit when applying for another driving position. Unfair? Yes
