Hi,

I'm new to the forum. I passed all my tests and preliminary interview for the post of non commercial guard working out of London Waterloo.

Been told I will have an interview with the Guard Managers in the next couple of weeks or so.

Can anyone give me any pointers, what to expect?

Thanks in advance

Gman

First of all congratulations gman

Best thing to do is where a suit with a tie as first impressions are everything and it looks like you really want the job too. So many people don't wear suits to interviews and when they don't get the job they later regret it!!!

Also try and find out as much as you can about south-west trains as they will ask you this in the interview and be yourself. Good luck!!!

Thanks Mike, that's really helpful. Took myself on a train to Southampton yesterday and had a good chat with the guard. Fingers crossed! Thanks again

Yes that's another good thing to do. Go to London Waterloo and speak to the guards their and ask them about the job and have a great look around the station as this goes massively in your favour too!!

First thing is first, wear very smart clothes, polished shoes etc.

Speak clearly and stick to the point, clearly state what you did in each example to the questions they ask you.

They'll ask you questions like, when have you had to deal with an emergency or out of course situation.

When have you death with an unhappy customer, what did you do to resolve their problem.

When have you worked to rules and regulations.

Questions relating to the role, have as good understanding of the role, and the company.
A brief history of the franchise routes, traction challenges etc.

And good luck.

Does me being on anti-depressants mean I will fail the medical? I was prescribed them in November 2011 and haven't had a problem since

No it won't. I am a commercial guard with SWT and I was previously a non commercial guard in the London area with SWT so if you need any help please let me know. I'm currently based on the south coast but feel free to meet up if you want as I'm frequently in Waterloo.

Thanks Matt. Ahead of an interview how would I go about arranging to meet up? It would be very helpful say a few days before the interview (tbc) so the information is fresh.

Must say everyone I have spoken to so far that works for SWT is very enthusiastic and positive
