Singing on trains couldn't possibly be illegal!

no person on the railway shall, to the annoyance of any person:

but anyone travelling on NYE would have to expect that - and happy loud drunks are much better than angry loud drunks!

But that's Byelaw 7, which can't be breached by an 'Authorised Person', i.e. the guard.

Funny that you mention Signing on trains - On the Dogbox (153369) i had on Saturday from Exeter St Davids to Newton Abbot - Some passengers boarded at Dawlish Warren, started signing and even brought a trumpet out until their stop at Teignmouth!

As for the guard, good for him! They were having fun, He was obviously having fun, and thanks to a journey with SWT recently, it's nice to find good guards around to are happy to talk to you and even recommend good pubs!

I was on a few trains on NYE - I didn't see anything like that, but the mood was pretty good, with EMT staff taking a lot of time to chat to passengers and keep everyone happy (somewhat surprisingly, if you're cynical), and I noticed a lot of announcements on SN, GX and LM were unusually upbeat and cheerful.

As others have said, if staff engage with passengers and take an interest - in this case by singing - they will respect each other more.

I used to sing in the cab years ago..

Better to keep the passengers happy than upset, I work a lot of 'P-head' Trains and they can sing, chat and drink if they want as long as nobody is offended or upset.

It's great to see some cheerful passengers. I had to commute home from work on NYE and hated it as their were loads of drunk and obnoxious passengers!

This video makes me cringe a bit, it is of a SWT Guard and loads of presumably drunk passengers singing and being wild!

Maybe I just don't have a life but I don't see the Guard's behaviour as acceptable or professional. Ok it was on New Year's Eve, but still a bit OTT in my opinion!

The passengers were at least in good spirits which was nice to see

If you think this will his managers, I hope you had his permission to post this vid on an open forum that is widely used by SWT management. I just hope the guard does not get any backlash from it!

Better a happy train - than a wrecked train.

Had some interesting and sociable journeys very late evening on FCC - in the right mood , people open up and talk freely (plus a few songs) ...one epic one in the December snows two years in very memorable !!

I think the management will actually be pleased, shows iniative and the Passengers are happy
