SWT Guard having a bit too much fun (video)

This video makes me cringe a bit, it is of a SWT Guard and loads of presumably drunk passengers singing and being wild!

Maybe I just don't have a life but I don't see the Guard's behaviour as acceptable or professional. Ok it was on New Year's Eve, but still a bit OTT in my opinion!

The passengers were at least in good spirits which was nice to see

Hey , all credit to him. It was NYE and I think he did well .
If his managers weren't impressed then they would need to get a life. I have used SWT a lot and it's rarely been that much fun.

Had it been another night with a family and small children further up I expect he'd have dealt with it in a different way.

Dare I say it's probably good to keep good, unstrained relations with passengers on New Year's Eve. A smile and a song now might make it easier to calm somebody down later.

If you'd ever heard me sing you'd be wanting a change in the law incase I decided to sing on a train you were on.

As you've said it was on NYE and by him involving himself with the group it probably help keep things good natured as if he'd refused then you don't always know how someone who has had a fair amount to drink will react so he should be applauded for that.

Not what you would expect but goon on him really, the crowd clearly took it as a bit of fun and that's got to be the best method of crowd control I've ever seen

The managers maybe wouldn't see the bright side but as long as his other duties were being completed as appropriate I really can't see why there would be any cause for concern!

I agree with the majority. A bit of clean, good natured singing on NYE in a carriage full of revellers who've had too much to drink is a good way to handle it. From what we could see, everyone was joining in. And as was previously pointed out he would probably have acted differently if inappropriate to the other passengers on board.

Looks like much fun, yes, but too much fun? Not so sure!

I don't believe him to be in the front carriage, the train is travelling in the direction that the camera is pointing, a man can be clearly seen heading forward into the next carriage.

I doubt he would have done a ticket check on a late night NYE service, he was probably advised not to check for his own safety!

He could be a commercial guard though, as some will not always carry their machine with them, if the whole train has been checked then he may leave it in his compartment as it can be a nuisance to carry around when doing safety critical duties!

Hahahahaha!!! It could be his spad song! With the number of people who think that the driver is too important to ever be distracted...

I doubt you'd hear much of it behind the doors, from the video, the people are in the back of the coach, not near the front, and I think that the door on the other side of the carriage is the passage from the 5th to the 4th Coach (with Guards compartment there)

Often I can hear the AWS chime if I'm in the front coach of an MU so pretty sure the driver would be able to hear raucous behaviour!

Jeez, that's rough! The railway at the time (SRA/PTC) had studies done about music. Apparently music in the cab increases concentration over long periods of time. Not complaining, I'd go batty if there was silence in the cab all day or night, which ever you're working. I'd be forced to sing!
