My SWT Gold Card is due to expire 16 Jan, would I be able to purchase a new card starting 01 Jan to miss out on the price increase this year (understanding I would lose the 16 days on my current card) or do I have to wait for my current card to expire before I can renew?

Yes you can... however I don't think it'd be a renewal

Yes, that's right, you'd be "doubly valid" for a few days! But you may as well go for it, as the same will happen each year! (The best year to have done it would have been a few years ago when there was hardly any change and the prices went down slightly)

OOI, what is the big deal about renewals? Is it solely because of the potential to circumvent the fare rise?

SWT offer discounts on season tickets for any delays, instead of doing the more common now-a-days Delay Repay.

There is some info on this page.

Thanks for the replies, I renewed my Gold Card today saving myself £48 and a nice feeling that I wont have the 2012 price increase for another 12 months. I paid by credit card so purchasing today or in 2 weeks time I will still be billed on the same date. The 2 weeks which I have lost out on I would only notice if I was to cancel my Gold Card following a job change.

Also had 1 void day taken off the price which I wasnt expecting to get.
