During recent observations, i have noticed that SWT enjoy running 10 and 12 coach trains half hourly to Alton.
Now if these trains were reduced to 4 coaches, or 8 coaches until Farnham and then 4 to Alton {spare 4 to Farnham shed}, the savings would be unimaginable.
All those spare units and none of them out clocking up the miles, putting a breather on Northam and Strawberry Hill.
Another favourite is to run the same 12 car on the Portsmouth Harbour - Waterloo via Eastleigh, all day. This only needs to be a 4 car off peak. Ditch 8 coaches into Fratton or Wimbledon for a few hours.
I can see things have gone down hill since my departure from South West Trains
