SWT trains have guards.

For 455 operated services, more likely to be non-commercial.

Stops are so close together, they'd have no time to sell tickets between opening the doors, so there's little point.

I do, however, believe LOROL guards are commercial, though presumably rarely get the chance to sell tickets - am I right in that or am I misremembering?

LOROL conductors are not commercial as far as I am aware. Both commercial and non-commercial guards sign 455s in the areas they operate though as mentioned previously it's the non-commercial links that tend to pick up the 455 work. And yes us lowly non-commercial guards are paid less (by quite a bit actually).

Ah, OK. I'm sure I've seen a couple of people mention being commercial guards on LOROL, but I must be going crazy.

I think the difference is around the £5k mark and does not include the commission that we get on ticket sales. I don't sign 455s anymore (sadly) but having gone from being a non-commercial guard to a commercial guard I can't think of any reason to go back-except the 455s maybe;)

SWT was down to be DOO when Southern became DOO and a lot of the CCTV and mirrors were installed however I think the unions put a stop to SWT becoming DOO so it never materialised. Correct me if I am wrong!

I think it was more that privatisation stopped it. I believe the South Central network went over to DOO under BR, but privatisation came along and put a halt to the South Western network becoming DOO, and it just hasn't been attempted since privatisation.

Although, as we know, some Southern 455s do have guards on the Metro routes - Dorking-Horsham immediately springs to mind! Also some of the Guildford Metro services, for the Sutton/Epsom/Leatherhead-Guildford (or vice versa) leg.

I would say most of it is exBR equipment as it all appears to be painted in NSE red.

£6k at last glance. Non-comms are sitting ducks at the moment IMO.
