Waiting for a FGW London bound train at Castle Cary yesterday evening (between 2030 and 2045) I saw two SWT trains go through, one in each direction. The eastbound one was displaying "Out of Service", had no passengers and went through platform 3 (didn't see where it came from). The westbound I didn't see if it was in service or not, but it disappeared on the track towards Yeovil (I think). They were in that order.

What were SWT doing round Castle Cary - they don't run trains there do they? Any chance they might?

today I will mostly be at home decorating
The eastbound one could have been an ECS from Yeovil jn to Salisbury, some are routed that way as a way of keeping the crews route knowledge up in case of engineering work or an emergency on the usual route. As for the westbound one I am not sure but could be the same?

On the 6th and 7th of February, due to work between Templecombe and Yeovil, SWT are running a 2-hourly service London - Salisbury - Westbury - Yeovil - Exeter.

Thanks everyone. It would be handy if they stopped at Castle Cary to replace Templecombe, but I guess that would be out of the question if it's not a normal SWT stop.

Funky, thanks for the gen. Are they stopping at Warminster, Westbury and/or Castle Cary?

Some, but not all, are stopping at Warminster. All are stopping at Westbury, and none are stopping at Castle Cary.

Salisbury > Exeter, they seem to have a 20-25 minute wait at either Westbury or Yeovil Junction. Presumably this is to make sure it connects with the bus at Yeovil.

Today the SWT 158 with FGW gaurd was at Castle Cary doing the 1610 to Waymouth run from plt 3.

I belive an earlier train to Waymouth broke down somewhere and was cancelled , not the 1123 ish from Dorchester West as I was one that one but the one before.

It was looking much cleaner on the outside that any FGW I can remember seeing.

That would have been AFAIK a FGW service run by a SWT 158 on-hire
