SWT 455 formations on Sundays

Hi all,

Just been wondering (and wanted to know for something as well), I'm sure that on sundays, 455s with SWT are formed as 4 cars only and rarely run as 8. Soomeone told me they run 8 cars all the time, but im sure i've seen 4 cars pretty much all the time on sundays, something to do with allowing 455s for servicing/and less passengers on this day?

I was also told the 458s are used on sundays to Dorking sometimes as well, or do they not do that anymore (didn't think they do to be honest)?

4 Car running is correct although SWT do occasionally strengthen units for special events. 458s only normally work Reading-Waterloos at weekends, although can be supplemented by desiros.

hey peeps,

on sundays swt have recently been opperating 4 car 455's on the guilford lines (via cobham & epsom), dorking line, chessington south line, kingston rounders and hampton courts as not many passengers board these services on sundays as there may be other services or just because its the weekend, they run 8 car 455's on the guildford via woking line and shepperton line no idea why they do it on the shepperton lines as an 8 car but hey all i do is get on it and work it don't tend to ask why its a 4 or an 8?

and to the best of my knowledge swt don't run 458s down the dorking line i've never seen or heard of one going down there they mainly stay on the reading line, guildford ascot line or tehyrun down empties to i think its bournemouth every now and then. they also do a run up from aldershot to waterloo via ascot in the early morning s and last evenings

I worked one round there last Saturday as the Reading services were diverted via Kingston to Twickenham where I changed ends.

Same coming back changed ends at Twickenham to work via Kingston to Waterloo and into platform 5.

The stops were Clapham Junction,Kingston,Twickenham,Feltham,Staines and as normal.

Coming back from Reading,Normal to Staines,Feltham,Twickenham,Kingston,Clapham Junction,Waterloo

Sunday I know they were also stopping at Wimbledon as well.
I went to Salisbury Sunday so I missed out on the fun.

Sunday we missed out on a pair of 159s towards Salisbury, was super packed. I noticed the 455s were 4 cars (suprised to get one into P6 at Waterloo) and saw 2 8 car 455s myself. Someone did say they run 8 as usual, but was confused as I'd never seen that before.

Talking of that, It would be handy to have the timings for these diverted services. Not the WTT or anything, basically how long they were booked to take from Wimbledon to Surbi and Surbi to Twickenham, tis all I need to know. I'd be grateful if you know how long it takes on those two sections.

They didn't go via Surbiton. The Kingston loop diverges from the main line two stations north of Surbiton at New Malden. The loop can only be accessed from the main line by country bound services travelling away from Wimbledon - not London bound services travelling towards Wimbledon.

I keep thinking its Surbiton, then stops up to Strawberry hill etc. Basically then I would like to know the time it took from Twickenham to Wimbo and Wimbo to Waterloo (on the Sunday since they stopped there).

Juniper Driver, I'm surprised you know the Kingston Loop so well. I was out and about on 458s that day. Some days I just sit at Teddington or Strawberry Hill for 2 or 3 hours recording the amount of 458s and 450s together with 455 stoppers that come thorough.

Next time its on its for 5 weekends, HELLFIRE! . Although how you manage to keep to the 60mph limit from Twickenham to Strawberry hill then 50 over the junction then 60 to the bridge over the river is beyond me.

Just had a ride out down to Shepperton with an assessor today as well.

Easy to keep to the speed limits.(touchwood)

Ah, you say that but I probably know more than Juniper driver on how 455 are formed most sundays.

As said it is normally 4, but Sunday the 12th it was all 8.

Yes probably as I have only been driving them for almost two years I had heard some right horror stories from drivers (In how unreliable they were) who have been driving them longer .

I have had the odd weird fault on them though which makes them different to the 442's.
