Saw it at Winchester with 444019 on the rear, forming a Waterloo bound train, nothing out of the ordinary... exaggeration?

Whaddya mean by 'Overdrive'. Not a term I've heard of. Wonder if it's the one I took onto the depot the other day? Horrible fan noise that wouldn't stop. Sounded like a very loud hoover - but not a 50 I hasten to add.
P.S. I heard a funny yesterday. Driver had a door problem and a red fault came up on the TMS. When he pressed the remedy (fault) button it came up "Donkey attachment" to much merriment. Puzzled he phoned Siemens.
"Ja?"
"I've got 'Donkey attachment' on the TMS"
"Nein"
"I have!"
"Is not possible!"
Turns out that some wag at the depot in Northam has been tinkering with the software. It should say 'Door Key Attachment' - a problem when joining up

we had a good one a 350 went to leave euston and the guard could not get interlock, so he went up to check the front carriage as that is where the hazzrd light was on , the driver looked out the window and muttered something, he then called county control and said " the f-ing stupid guard is p_ssing about with the doors and is a c_nt, the conversation went on like that for a while, in the mean time the guard had released all the doors and closed them again still the same fault, after much playing about the driver checked the tms, and it said drivers door not closed, he had pulled it shut like a 321 and not pressed the door closed button" now who's a stupid c_nt, needless to say he got a good talking down from his manager, (all calls to control are recorded) because he denied swearing.

Thats till the motor loosens again and dislodges the windscreen wiper... pretty bad design fualt if you ask me!!!

Did you know - the 444's are slower than the 450's? Same motors but the extra coach holds them back. It's what I miss about pigs really - so much faster. We steadily lose time now with the slower acceleration.
Of course - Disastros might be alright if they let them have full rein. At the moment they are held back to between 60 to 70% of the available power.
But even when all the new substations are ready it's doubtful that they will turn the power up on the units. As it is - passsengers sometimes fall back when we take power.
How are the Northern overhead Disastros for getting away?

From what I've seen, passengers need to be securely strapped in to avoid injuries during take off !!!!

Heh... you must living in some cocooned Pig world, where everything they do, includign take 5 minutes to close the doors and then take another 10 minutes to get up to 20mph, is better than a 444!
Last time I was on a 444, we left Waterloo about 3 minutes late, and by Winchester were 2 minutes early. Yes it's slack time, but it didn't loose any, and Pigs also had the slack time to be brilliant in.

I'm convinced a few of the 444s have had the power raised as some of the start offs are similar to;
- Right away
- Take power
- Bang
- Straight up to 2mph
- Rapidly accelerating to 10mph then cut out
- Then slower than pig acceleration to about 100mph

Leave Clapham with a Pig or go through at 50mph (when there aren't any speed restrictions as there are at present) and you were up to line speed 75mph well before the Durnsford Road flyover. Disastros round about the platform at Wimbledon.
Even 159's which are not the quickest getting away are up to 75mph by the middle of the flyover. I'm blaming the Disastros - it's because they are de-tuned.

In my experience the 442s got past just beyond Byfleet & New Haw. Currently with 444s I find it can vary from train to train?

I was thinking about the down - it's downhill and even quicker - not long after the 450 came off that short 60mph slight curve on the Dn Slow.

I thought the slow lines were mainly limited to 60/75mph whereas the fasts are 100mph?

I personally thought the slow lines were 90, certainly felt like it between Farnborough and Basingstoke.

North of Woking?!?
According to a slightly outdated PON, generally the slow is 90 between Woking and Basingstoke, although it does have a 70 and 75 patch between Brookwood and Farnborough, and a short 65 through Farnborough platforms (down slow only). Fast lines are a mix of 90 abnd 100* Directly North of Woking it's 90 on all lines except a 100 section on the up fast between Woking and West Byfleet and a 75 limit through the down slow platform at West Byfleet. I do not know much else other than it's 80 on all lines through Berrylands. Kris can probably expand further on that.
*Trains formed entirely of 442s, 444s, 450s and HSTs. Others limited to 90.
Upon keeping a close eye on the % gauge when on a 10 car once between Brock & Soton, it was dreadfull, when he kicked the brakes in, my god, it went to about 80% on the brake side, talk about sharp!
The 442 brakes were nice and strong as well, once I remember speeding up from Soton Tunnel & we was doing 40MPH when the 3rd coach# hit the platform, that was some drving I tell you!

I thought that 442 acceleration was excellent, doors seemed quick to close too! Although thats probably as I come from diesel land so anything electric is quick to me!
