From Wikipedia;
The motor buffet vehicles were all modernised in a works programme at Crewe from 1997-98. At the same time, units were also repainted from their original Network SouthEast livery, into South West Trains' Express livery. During 2006, South West Trains have sent some units to Bombardier at Ilford. The livery has been modified to make it Disability Discrimination Act friendly.

WTF?

The livery modifications include:

- Door painted orange in red swoop on driving coaches
- Red swoop extended further down the bodyside
- Red doors extended down to bottom of bodyside

Hehe, I put that in on WP.

As Damon has already said, the modifications made to the 442s were just to allow disabled users of the trains easier access to find doors, etc.

I dont know if any one noticed, but te orange strip that ran alon the bottom of the train above the blue line, when you got to the door it was a slightly different shade of oranage this was because of the disabled act thingy, ill try find the pic!

Yeah i remember last year when Tom was complaining to SWT about how they were not matching shades and then only found out that it was because of the act hence why he modified the document ;)

But i never noticed the differance in swoop before and only just have when i compare the two:

I was complaining? :|

You sent emails with attachment pictures like the one when we went to the Swanage Branchline Weekend you took a close shot of the door, line and cab end!

Then they told you how it was so that it came into regulation with the Disability Discrimination Act.

Err...no I didn't!

I already knew that it was due to the DDA...

I thought the original plan for revised 442 livery was a much shorter swoosh, like 444/450s have? Obviously they found a longer swoosh easier to apply.
