I was surprised to see SWT 158890 turn up whilst waiting at Shoreham by Sea for the FGW Great Malvern to Brighton service this afternoon. How long has this unit been on loan from SWT ?

This unit is the Weekday and Saturday hire-in to First Great Western, its regular diagram has recently changed, and it now operates to Brighton.

Not long, because it's a daily hire in. The allocated unit runs from, and back to Salisbury depot each night. I'm fairly sure they don't have the same unit continuously.

Wow!!!! I would have loved to see this unit on the Brighton line (I live in Chichester) let's hope this isn't a rare occurance When will the unit return properly to SWT? I presume the pacers haven't moved anywhere despite commencement of the new timetable.

Are the Arriva 150s still on hire or are the LM 153s a replacement?

Most certainly isn't a rare occurance this is the SWT hire ins booked diagram. The unit is only a on the day hire in, and will vary from day to day as to what SWT have spare. The diagram is listed below:

The unit is operated by FGW crew throughout, bar the trip back from Bristol to Salisbury.

Still the 7 142s with FGW as there are no LM 150s to replace them yet, they won't move anywhere until then.
Fairly sure the Arriva 150s are still being hired on a daily basis as otherwise FGW would be two units short. The LM 153s are additional capacity for the summer, but some LM 153s will most likely stay on with FGW once LM receives the 172s.

Back in Jan they did confirm (but only via a FOI response) that there were more LM 150s up for grabs, but have they issued anything publicly about 153s yet?

Lets hope a 150/1 dosen't end up on the Brighton afternoon run because the amount of luggage onboard the 158 today would have nowhere to go. Can a trolley work through a 150/1 high density interior?

They trolley would usually park up in the cycle bay and stay there, as it won't fit down the aisles. 150's of both types (/1 & /2) are hopeless for luggage, but a 150/1 would be even worse thanks to the grotty seats!

Is that gospel? It'll be very interesting indeed to see what happens regarding a refurb or paintjob, with the FGW franchise now uncertain. As much as those units look very smart externally, they're in need of an interior refresh (or certainly 333 is anyway)!

Interestingly, they had their interior refresh about the same time as the FGW 153s. If they do have work done, presumably it will be in the style of the 150/1s with a plain blue repaint on the outside, pink handles and new seat covers inside.

Saw it in Brighton whilst on my ALR was very confused to see it! But this thread cleared it up!
