SWT £20 Summer Offer Query

Hi,

I'm planning on using the SWT Offer to travel from Windsor & Eton Riverside (WNR) to Weymouth (WEY) on Tuesday 28th July.

Can anybody confirm if you are allowed to break your journey using this offer - for example my first train will be from Windsor to Clapham Jn., but from Clapham do I then have to travel directly to Weymouth or can I get off at Eastleigh (for a bit of spotting) before joining another train to Southampton and then onwards to Weymouth.

I've looked at the full terms as advertised on the SWT website, but there's no mention of break of journey either being allowed/disallowed. They just say that the ticket is "Off Peak Day Return tickets between two stations for travel on South West Trains and Island Line services only."

Normal Off-Peak Day Return conditions and validity apply, so break of journey is permitted on both outward and return legs.

Tickets are available for sale from 10 July until 28 August 2015.

RESTRICTIONS
Travel is valid between any two South West Trains served stations on South West Trains services only excluding all stations west of Salisbury (between Warminster and Bristol Temple Meads inclusive and Tisbury and Exeter St Davids inclusive). The ticket price excludes cross-Solent travel to/from the Isle of Wight. Travel on 1 August and 15 August 2015 is excluded.

REFUNDS
A full refund less GBP10.00 admin fee can be granted on unused tickets before date of outward travel.

CHANGES TO TRAVEL PLANS
Customers cannot change their date of outward travel once they have purchased their ticket.

DISCOUNTS
This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other discount (Group, Railcard etc). Weekend First Upgrade can be used in conjunction with the Spring promotional tickets subject to availability.

BREAK OF JOURNEY
No break of journey is permitted other than for connectional purposes.

AVAILABILITY
Travel is valid between any two South West Trains served stations, except stations listed above as exceptions.

VALIDITY
Valid on the date printed on the ticket. Ticket restrictions are in place if travelling on a weekday to London Waterloo, Vauxhall or Clapham Junction. Travel is not permitted on trains arriving into these stations before 1000 or departing before 0900. If you are travelling from one of these stations then travel is not permitted on trains leaving London Waterloo between 16:00 and 19:07, from Vauxhall between 16:00 and 19:09 or from Clapham Junction between 16:03 and 19:15.

No further discounts of any kind, per Condition 3 of the Ts&Cs:

3. Tickets are priced at £20 per adult and £8 per child. No further discount is available for Railcard holders and the offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other discount.

No BoJ restriction is mentioned in the Terms and Conditions on the website, so I would imagine they'd be hard pressed to attempt to enforce such a restriction.

Thanks for the various comments/feedback.

Looks like there are polar opposite opinions here - internal booking engine says BoJ is not allowed, whilst the Terms & Conditions make no mention of this.

I guess it'll come down to what is defined as a BoJ ? Is getting off a train and jumping on the following service a break, or is a break defined as when you actually leave the station ?

Leaving a railway station is a necessary element of breaking a journey. See the National Rail Conditions of Carriage.

And in some circumstances you can leave a railway station without it being classed as a BoJ - for example, walking to another station to continue your journey on a permitted route, or for an overnight stay if you cannot complete your journey.

Just to report back that my journey went ok.

From Clapham Junction I caught a Poole service as far as Eastleigh, then from Eastleigh I caught a Salisbury service as far as Southampton Central, before finally jumping onto a direct train to Weymouth.

On the way back I stopped at Southampton Central and Basingstoke.

There were plenty of ticket checks during the day, but no issues
