This situation has primarily arisen as a result of poor workforce planning and inadequate recruitment - it shouldn't come as a surprise that more traincrew will want to take annual leave during the summer holidays!

I think it would be fairer to say that this has primarily arisen as a result of the various reasons that have delayed the 701 introduction. I’m willing to bet that there were very well developed workforce plans for 701 introduction at various points.

The problem with taking out a set number of diagrams as they've done is that it can be very hard to avoid consecutive cancellations. You can start the day with cancelled trains not near each other but then as end to end run times vary the cancellations come together.

Basically it looks like they've done this in the easiest way you can without re-writing all the crew diagrams. This is probably as someone has said up thread due to the workload on the planning department, especially as the whole thing looks like a last minute decision.

Yes it's poor (I'm one of those effected) but I don't think there's any conspiracy around which trains they've chosen.

A reasonable mitigation for the latter point would be to allow people to travel on the previous train for the duration of the temporary cuts.

Yes this would have been an acceptable solution.

RTT only gets updated weekly for amended timetables, due to the way the short term planning stuff gets uploaded. Should be changed tomorrow or Thursday

Given the closure between Barnes and Kew Bridge next week there should be some additional resource. It always seems to be much easier to cut services than to reintroduce them though so it may not result in any changes.

Whilst I can see why you think that, engineering work diagrams are always less efficient (you need two sets of crews to cover both sides of the block compared to one compliment working a through journey).
