On 15 December 2025, I was approached by a member of Revenue Protection at Waterloo Station, who checked my ticket and found that I had traveled without a valid fare (bought a ticket from Vauxhall). In my nervousness, I mistakenly stated that I had boarded at Surbiton, when I was actually travelling from Cobham Station. I fully understand the seriousness of this matter and am committed to ensuring it does not happen again. On occasion, I have forgotten to purchase a ticket before boarding, which accounts for the other offences. I received an email from SWR on 19 February 2026, which I have attached below, and have drafted a response. Would someone be able to review it for me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Dear **,

I am writing in response to your email concerning my recent rail travel and the review of my ticket history. First and foremost, I would like to offer my sincerest apologies for travelling without a valid ticket on 15th Dec, 2025. During my interaction with the member of Revenue Protection, I incorrectly stated that I had boarded at Surbiton, when in fact I had boarded at Cobham & Stoke D’Abernon. I was extremely nervous at the time and, although there was no intention to provide incorrect information, I fully understand the seriousness of the matter. I accept complete responsibility and sincerely regret both my actions and what I said.

On some occasions, I have failed to purchase my ticket before travelling and only realised later on in the journey, which may explain the other inconsistencies identified in my travel history. I am aware that short faring is a detriment to SWR and the resources of the company and am committed to ensuring this does not happen again. To prevent any recurrence, I have purchased a monthly season ticket and will continue to do so going forward.

I would be extremely grateful for the opportunity to settle this matter without court proceedings and am willing to pay any outstanding travel fares, as well as covering the administrative expenses associated with reviewing this case. I respectfully ask that this be taken into consideration so that this matter can be resolved promptly and without any further action.

Yours Sincerely,

**

I don't think it's reasonable to say you just keep forgetting to buy tickets. They've identified you as someone who routinely short fares, purposely, and even caught you out lying about your origin station when stopped.
