I recently travelled from Woking To Waterloo Station, upon arriving to Waterloo there was a ticket guard who asked for my ticket. I showed him my ticket via my Trainline app which had a rail card applied, unknowingly to my self my railcard expired 2 days prior (I should’ve checked) when I noticed this I immediately offered to renew this as you SWR a lot with my railcard. Which he declined immediately. After getting all my details etc, I asked if this is resulting in a fine which he said most likely not as the rail card expired 48 hours ago and I also offered to renew my railcard. (Which he said he added this to the witness statement) additionally he mentioned that if one was to come through I should try to appeal it. I have just arrived home now to find a prosecution notice of £133.80. Which seems ridiculous as the difference between my railcard price ticket and a normal ticket was only £3-4. What is the likely hood of me winning if I was to challenge this?
