I agree it is safe to assume that there should be a 458/5 or two heading for Long Marston sooner rather than later. But do you have some more info ?.
sorry for this I was making an assumption, and I’ll keep an eye on Derby RTC and Wimbledon SDGS

Does anyone know if 5868 still exists, or has that now been taken to Ward’s for scrapping?

In all the drone footage I've seen it's at the Very back of Litchurch lane so presumably will be one of the final ones to leave for scrap.

No probs. Plus worth keeping an eye out on Real Time Trains for Long Marston as not much movement there (so can be easy to see the wood for the trees). But Something from Derby would be the earliest early warning.

Yes, from the previous drags observed, some locomotives or barrier wagons also

I assume this is the best place for this post:

On Friday 27 March 2026 I was travelling north on the M1 just south of Northampton and I saw a Reid Freight low loader heading south with a class 455 driving trailer on the back. Not sure of the number, origin or destination but thought it worth a mention if an odd car has turned up further south.

Could it have been the same vehicle as in post #4559?

A move has appeared to Long Marston for Monday, would guess it's most likely to be 458535:
Thanks. Why only drag one of the remaining units away? Why not drag two? They are all off lease now, aren’t they?

Why has this thread been marked as complete when the 458s are still around? Technically it isn't complete yet

Other drags have been a single unit and a couple of months after the last passenger service. Also require barrier wagons which could be more difficult for two units at a time as well.

The other two 458/5s are clearly stood down. I don't know the specifics of the lease conditions, most leases will require redelivery as the ROSCO would want SWR to be liable in the unlikely event the units got damaged at Wimbledon Park.

One of the 458/5s was moving around in Wimbledon depot under its own power this morning; I didn't see which one but based on what you say, as it seemed to be getting shunted to the back behind the shed close to the wheel lathe, it could well have been 458 535 being positioned for this move?

I’m aware, I made it.
I think the post you replied to was suggesting that metro withdrawals were not “complete” because three 458/5s have yet to be dragged away.

i made a thread on 458/4s and their future which I agree is a separate issue.

To add. This thread did get closed for further replies but was re-opened for any future updates on moves for scrap of 455s and moves for storage of 458/5s (also perhaps before the last 458/5 got withdrawn from service I cannot remember). It is arguably "complete" in the sense that it now looks like no more 458/5s seem to be in use (so everything withdrawn from service iirc). But thread will probably get closed later when the last of the 458/5s has made its move into storage.

Is this going to be a 458/5 drag or is this a test train?

Assume this’ll be cancelled as there’s nothing going to Wimbledon picking the unit up

There is a path on Thursday for what has been quoted elsewhere as top & tail 93s + barrier wagons after taking something else (a 175?) from Ely Papworth to Wolverton

As yet, I cannot see an onward path from Wimbledon to Long Marston, but I am guessing this will do the 458/5 move that was originally planned for yesterday?

Thanks for spotting that. Will be very nice for those of us in London to see a 93 on a scrap drag even if there are hardly any units left to drag away.

Is there a path away from Wimbledon yet for whatever this is aupposed to be dragging off?
I have been looking but to no avail.

The inward path 5Q87 from Wolverton looks likely to be 93010, 6346, 6330 & 93004. That is based on 7Q70 from Ely to Wolverton being that consist with 175109 sandwiched. Seems to be no other path off Wolverton following 7Q70 and nothing else to feed 5Q87 off Wolverton.

So would this be the the first time 93s are going to get to South(-ish) London ?.

How many 458/5s are left to drag away from Wimbledon ?.
