The December LTP carriage working notices have a few 455 diagrams on them. But as @TEW said they are only temporary

3 pairs for the first week. There's likely to be diagram changes the next week anyway as it's Christmas week, but probably some 455s diagrammed up to the 23rd, but not diagrammed after then. There's a lot of engineering work then until the New Year, so the 23rd is likely to be the last day.

That's ironically when I was planning to go home from Manchester (to Surrey via London) and was going to spend the afternoon trying to get the 701s in the book. You mean I'm going to have to avoid 455s even then? :rolleyes::lol:

One last goodbye I suppose, hahahaha.

So 23rd looks like the day. I’ll be quite emotional!

I wonder how long it will take next year to get all the withdrawn units off the SWR network. I’d assume about two months at the current rate of scrap runs.

I wonder if any will actually be diagrammed for Monday 22nd, and Tuesday 23rd Dec, as not uncommon to shorten many mainline trains from 12 to 8car Christmas week, so possibly 450s as substitutes

Of course, it's possible some will be used as late substitutions that week.

Although big question is what happens Monday 5th January when everyone goes back to work, and some more companies limit working from home (and not hard to google companies that are saying back in office in 2026) Going to be big crowding if don't have more 701s available for service.

The train in front of it, 2K45, was the one that failed at Wimbledon with a faulty door.

2G45 was trapped behind and had to do a wrong-direction move back a signal to get around it.

Yes, looks like 2K43 was the culprit. Arrived at platform 8 in Wimbledon at 16:18 with no further reports. Indeed platform 8 then saw no more use until 17:38
2K45 then 2G45 seemed to have used platform 7 the down fast line iirc ?.
Several trains later.
2K47 was then the first down stopper reverting to the normal platform 8 (down slow) at 17:38, late but probably due to all the chaos.
Eighty minutes without platform 8 (down slow at Wimbledon) must have created carnage in the evening "rush hour" !.

Could Derby Litchurch lane run out of space before all the stock left can be dragged off SWR turf? If they are to be scrapped somewhere like Kingsbury then the best frequency I've seen is a rate of 4-cars per week, which would easily be insufficient to stop Derby filling up.

Logically the space needed for the 455s would be slightly less than the storage space freed up by 701s replacing them (directly or indirectly) ?.
So I suspect that unless the UK is filling up with new trains faster than 455s come out of service then there will be some space somewhere !.

It was!! Seems a lifetime ago now that weekday evening stopped every hour at Wimbledon for Basingstoke. Back in the glory days of slam door traction that is.

Ely definitely has space as both Networkers (for scrap) and 175s (for GWR) have left the site in recent months, without anything else going there. However sites seemed to be linked to ROSCOs, so I assume that determines storage location more than what space exists.

Long Marston is the storage location of choice for Porterbrook. A bit of space has been cleared with the arrival at Wimbledon Park of more 701s, but it seems the space is being filled with 350/2s.

Something (455 or 508 shaped) was being loaded on a truck at Wimbledon Park when I went past on the delayed 18:09 to Guildford at about 18:30. Lots of floodlights etc.
