Thanks. Last time I worked 2F35, I remember it being a 455 - I can't keep up with all the stock changes.

I wonder if any of the other diagrams will go over to 450 operation as more 701s come into service?

Tuesday 10.12.24 something will be taken from Wimbledon Park to long Marston (probably another 458)
ROG 37s (I assume) and probably barrier coaches as well will be coming from Derby RTC on Monday 9.12.24 working 5O87.
Then on Tuesday 10.12.24 the unit will be taken to Long Marston on 5Q99
will it be dragging a 458? if so which one

I do understand the economic reasons for not renewing the out of miles units but in the medium term until a healthy number of 701s are introduced it's going to be pretty torrid with all the short forms as more and more legacy units suffer the same fate.

From what I understand, the 701 driver training programme is being cut in half, meaning more drivers can be trained a lot quicker, which hopefully means the 701s can be introduced at a considerable pace soon. You can read more about this in the respective 701 thread. However there's no denying that short forms are going to become a prominent issue in the meantime...

That assumes that SWR can accept the units (and Almost get them into the right condition...) quickly enough.

I saw a solo 455 702 this morning on the 08.48 from Epsom to Waterloo - given this is a half hourly service ( yes - even at that time of a working day!! ) the need for additional 701s entering service is obvious.

Yes. Went over to 2*455 on 5th August 2024 as part of the 458/5 fleet reduction.

Yes, it was the last one to go over, moving from 10 458/5 to 8 455 around June.

According to the roll-out programme this is the first Reading line diagram for 701s, but not until next June. So, a lot of people standing for an hour plus until then. 450s would help with that, but any displaced pairs seem to go to straight to the mainline suburban instead. Unless things change next week, but I somehow doubt it.

Re. The 458s, updating my previous fleet list posted on the 458 thread shows the status of the 36 units (both /4 and /5):

- 2 will be in storage as of tomorrow (531/534)
- 1 is reportedly off lease (458532)
- 9 yet to enter service (402/03/04/05/07/14/17/18/19)
- 1 broken down (423)
- Remaining 23 in service

Believe U.458405 & U.458418 are back in Eastleigh Works storage, rumoured to be going back to Widnes with warranty probs ??

wikipedia says that they entered service in 2000. how on earth are trains from the 21st century now being scrapped, there are 50+ year old trains still running on the network!

Most old 458 vehicles are in a small yard near Stoke-on-Trent!
