SWR Guard Assessment Waterloo

Greetings I was wondering if any users would be able to give me some advice

last week I applied for a guard position at Waterloo and got through the online assessment(s). Now they’ve invited me to their day assessment at their HQ in Southampton next week.

very fortunately they’ve sent me samples to revise on which I have done however I am quite nervous on what to expect on the day and the difficulty of the assessments as I’ve heard they can call you in after you’ve taken one and send you home early if they think you’re not good enough for them.

I would like to know what to expect during the day, what the real assessments are like, what’s the next steps are should I get through them, do I need to dress smartly for the day and what’s the best way to go through the day. Any good advice would be much appreciated thank you!

I had an assessment for commercial guard back in october. You are correct in what you heard,if you fail the tests you are called back & are sent on your way home. You sit in the waiting for the door to open,if your name is called then that's it. My group started with 16 people & I was 1 of 5 that was still there at 3pm after a 9.30 start.

As for the tests,first is colour vision(look at some cards & tell the number that is coloured in the card). Maths(pretty basic),scaat(shapes),raat(rules & regs etc),customer service(19(yes19) customer service situations & what you would do. Rvce(railway verbal communication exercise(listen to a CD from a train driver who has had a crash with a car on a level crossing,talking to a train controller).Also for commercial guard the ticket issuing test.
