SWR/First Group Contract end: what might happen?

Has anyone got any ideas what will happen with First Groups contract when it expires in May 2025.

Do you reckon the government take SWR over or potentially give it to First Group again for a couple of years?

Any feedback is appreciated

The Government will take it over - no more DfT TOCs will be contracted out.

What will happen is that, on takeover, a couple of DOHL staff will sit on and chair the existing TOC Board. The TOC will initially remain the same and still work to the existing detailed DfT business plan for the TOC.

Do you think they will bring back safeguarded travel.

As for me it would be somewhat detrimental to loose first groups travel benefits as I go to Blackpool once every few months and other places.

Not heard anything of any reciprocal agreements between LNER, Northern, TPE or Southeastern since they have all come under DOHL. So doubt there will be anything with SWR unless First Group renew any arrangements between them.
