Hi all,

Does anyone have some insight to the level of disruption that might be expected travelling from Guildford to Waterloo on Sunday 3rd September? The national rail site confirms engineering will take place and advises checking journey planners - however I cannot seem to see any updated information in the national rail journey planner.

Many thanks,
Jacob

The revisions are shown in the journey planner.

The line is shut at Wimbledon, so direct services from Guildford to Waterloo are reduced to one per hour, diverted from Woking via Staines.

However It’s the day after the RMT strike so you can expect some further amendments for services in the early morning.

Thanks for the information! I was expecting to see replacement buses or something more obvious so didn't consider that the service had just been thinned out. It's not my local station so wasn't familiar with the normal timetable.

Guildford to Waterloo is 3tp2h rather than 1tph. There is a half hourly service to Woking, with 3 in 4 continuing to Waterloo and the 4th having a connection available at Woking for Waterloo. Journey times will be longer than usual though. Previous Sundays after Saturday RMT strikes have had very few or no amendments because of that.

When the SWML is diverted via Staines, anticipate significant delays as the day goes on.

From what I observed during Staines diversions, there usually is a change of driver/guard at Woking because I think not all sign the Staines route. The Staines route driver/guards come from Waterloo (correct me if I'm wrong - these are based on my observations) so if a train doing Waterloo to Woking carrying drivers/guards is delayed, it can have knock-on effects.

For example, in the last diversion (~a month ago), I boarded a train at Woking, heading to Waterloo. The driver announced that there was no guard and that the guard was on a delayed train from Waterloo, so I bailed off and got on another train. By checking RTT, I subsequently found that the train was stuck at Woking for an hour, blocking off platform 1, and caused the delays to get worse.
