Sorry if this has been asked umpteen times...

I made a journey from Wimbledon to Basingstoke today and both the outward and return journey were delayed by over 60 (I think). I know the outward journey definitely was, but the return I was told to go via Reading and Ascot which took forever. I have detailed notes of which trains I used. The problem is, my return journey started 5 mins after I arrived in Basingstoke...will this cause red flags? (I only went down there to do some SLW due to the landslip).

Now the question... Do I have to make two separate claims for the outward and return legs, or is there a way to do it in one that I am not seeing on their site? It asks if you have a return ticket, which I click on and it asks to upload the ticket... As I have only entered details for the outward journey, do I upload that ticket or the return as well? it's not intuitive. The other thing is I specifically asked for a "Via Waterloo" as I wanted to make sure I got a seat as I knew services were going to be busy.

Sorry it's so long. This is why I don't bother applying unless I feel particularly aggrieved!

It's unlikely that your claim will be rejected on the basis of you starting your return journey so shortly after your outward journey. There are many "legitimate" reasons why someone might decide to do so; picking up or dropping off something (or someone) would be one example, but you don't need to give a reason.

You will have to claim separately for each leg, and attach the same picture both times.

The only thing to be aware of is that if you will only be eligible for compensation based on the timetable that was in place when you bought your ticket. So unless you bought your ticket well in advance, it's possible your claim(s) might be denied as you weren't delayed compared to what you could have expected when you bought your ticket.

Thanks for the super quick reply and advice. I believe the timetable was put in place late last night/early hours of this morning to account for the landslip so I should be OK on that front. I'm not looking for a free ride, but it really was a poor show today, unfortunately.

I hope your "poor show" comment is not aimed at SWR. If a mainline is blocked then it's blocked. The obvious alternative is to route passengers via Reading, which is what appears to have happened.

Not only that, but to travel specifically because of the disruption and then to complain about the disruption seems rather strange.

I do love armchair warriors. SWR made a timetable for the disruption and were unable to keep to it- at 1 train per hour. I'm not sure it's worth bothering with much less than that. Their method of working was not clearly thought out and was changed late evening. Today, it has changed again with what still appears to a layman like myself as sub-optimal. I'm sure things will improve over the coming days. Once again, thanks to the original response who didn't feel the need to judge.
