Hello all,

After trying to go for commercial guard with SWR, I was told yesterday that I was successful with my interview. Unfortunately, there are no vacancies where I applied for (Bournemouth).

I have heard that hours will probably go down in May because of the agreements with the unions and more vacancies should hopefully be opening soon.

Does anyone have any idea if that is likely to happen next month or more later in the year and a close number of vacancies that might be opening (especially in Bournemouth) with the reduction of hours?

Thank you in advance :)

They are advertising for Commercial Guards at Bournemouth at the moment on the First Group careers website, closing 24th June so I would imagine that would be targeting being productive for the December timetable change. I think it best to check in with recruitment maybe every month to see if there is any updates and to remind them that you are there! As for numbers I'm not sure, I'm not a C/Guard at SWR but maybe someone on here will have an idea of numbers.

According to latest Bournemouth currently have 58 commercial Guards and need to have 65 by December. Hope that helps.

It will also be dependant on where you are in the queue at Bournemouth and if anyone drops out/fails medicals. I was successful after a re-interview at the end of March and told there was no immediate vacancies and I wouldn't start until at least September, then got a phone call a week later to start 23rd May. Looking at posts on here it looks like there is 1 course starting every month

Thank you very much for the info everyone! I am going to hold on to the hope of getting in still this year. I have no idea where I am in the queue, I just know that since they opened the applications for Commercial Guard at Bournemouth, I was one of the first people to get an interview because I had already done my assessments when I tried for Weymouth (just never had an interview for it). I heard that they do it by who sent the application in first though, so I have no idea where I am in the queue. I guess I’ll have to wait and see :)

(As per my post on the other page, not fair to share questions as they want to see how you would naturally fit with the jobs. I WILL say to consider safety first though. Good luck!)

Look at the job description. Think about the qualities they list. Think about how they might phrase a question in order for you to demonstrate that quality. Think of an answer. Good luck.

My advice is to go on google and search STAR method (which is used in most if not all interviews) and common questions asked in interviews. Try tailor and formulate an answer based on what they seem to be looking for as a quality (you can find this on the job description as stated by WombleGuard) but always using examples of events that you have experienced.
I would also look into the company history and what they have done so far, a little bit.
This is what I did to prepare for the interview.
