At Waterloo the 15:22 is delayed.
Check on RTT it’s late arriving from depot.

It’s arrived very nice
It’s running fast too to barnes the guard has announced.
Thanks for the photos.

Despite only being carpets, seats and power points it looks good. Those are the same seats as in the Class 444 1st class, are they not?

The 458/4s are currently delayed at Virginia Water on 2S54 due to reports of a passenger onboard carrying a knife.

Looking forward to see photos. Ive also just seen SWR have put out a video on their twitter now X page
There you go

https://twitter.com/SW_Help/status/1805228676239270276

No apologies that they've been sitting in sidings for months whilst passenger get crammed into short formed non a/c trains but at least some common sense has prevailed perhaps with no ministers in the office currently the civil servants are just doing the right thing.

SWR isn't having a good day.

On the SWR Enthusiasts FB Group (it's private so I can't post here) someone has posted loads of photos including of the cab. The driver's seat has been retrimmed and the cab looks like it's had a thorough clean and possibly repaint.

2S54 now on the move, fast from Staines to London Waterloo as a result of running 28 late.

Only one drivers seat has been retrimmed in those 2 units, the others remain the same

I wonder if that has anything to do with the union requests for an updated cab? IIRC that's what happened during the /5 rebuild under similar conditions. It could signify that there may be a plan to use them for longer than a few months, although I'd be surprised to see it.

Possibly because the seat needed repair and the others did not?

Well the run fast to barnes hasn’t happened we are now resuming normal stopping pattern from Clapham control changed there mind
Which is even more frustrating as had I known I could have got the train in front and picked it up at CLJ, instead of unsuccessfully trying to get to Waterloo before it left. (It's along way from platform 21 to platform 16!)

We made some progress when having the clear run from Staines to Barnes via Hounslow, regaining 10 minutes. But then we were put behind an all shacks into Waterloo, capping any more gain. Not only that but also ended up leapfrogging the ex-Reading 458/5 unit that left Virginia a few minutes before we got moving. Still, at least it was empty!

I am not certain, but I think this may only be because there is a pair of 458/5 on 2C07 0550 Waterloo - Reading diagram instead of 2*455? There are 7 seven pairs of 458/5 in use this morning and I doubt that the number of booked 458/5 diagrams should have increased from 12 last week to 14 this week, but others will know a lot better than me. I think that the by-product of the 458/4 diagram is that the afternoon single 455 diagram on Windsor/Weybridge drops out, with a pair of 450 sitting spare on Wimbledon until the afternoon, which effectively is the other half of the 701 diagram. The pair of 450 sitting on Wimbledon throughout the morning peak is what happened prior to the June t/t change.
Looks like it's the same today on Reading services - just the one pair of 455s, plus two pairs of 458/5s (3 pairs in the AM peak).

Unlike yesterday, today the 2C07 diagram is listed on journeycheck as 10v8 and it appears that this is due to a shortage of 455s. Perhaps SWR are fortunate in that the delay in delivering 458526 to Widnes, and hence its delayed completion, means that the next 458/5 to leave SWR (which should have been today in the normal sequence) has not occurred. Yesterday, all 16 458/5 still on SWRs books were in service at some point in the day, and that could not have happened if a unit was being delivered to Widnes.

Many thanks for that!

The 2C07 diagram does seem to fluctuate a lot between 455 and 458/5.

Thanks for the warning. I was going to use that to get to Waterloo for another attempt at riding a 458/4.

Mind you, 4 cars that call at my station are better than 8 cars that skip my stop, which is what that service did yesterday.

After the 458/4s are converted, how long would it be left until the remaining six unconverted /5s sets are withdrawn?

Really improved train interior. Would still hope for long term deployment on the Portsmouth Line - the lack of long distance trains on SWR isn't resolved by the oversupply of 701s.

are you sure all 16 were in use, I couldn’t find 8534 as that’s the only /5 I still need for haulage?

Also worth mentioning that the 707 diagram was 5 vice 10 with only 7024 being out yesterday
It seems 8534 has gone off lease

8534 was stood down at the end of May due to being out of miles, and is no longer part of the operational fleet. Those currently in use are;

458/5 In service (16)
458502,503,506,509-511,514,518,519
458529-533,535,536

I’m not understanding why 8534 has been stopped rather than given the overhaul it needs as 455s are still being overhauled. Where’s the difference?

Well pointed out, and just for clarity, as I fully appreciate the finer detail of such matters may seem confusing to those not close to/within the industry, any trains/formations as seen in service on any given day, will only come from the operational fleet available on that day. It matters not if there are 10, 20, 30 units seen to be sitting in sidings on the date concerned, if they are all out of miles, stood down pending refurb etc, they can't be used, end of.

Seven? 8529-33, 8535, 8536.

8531/2 are closest to the C4 mileage that means they will be off lease of the seven. The others will drop when they too reach the 750,000 miles from last C4.

Overhauls are focused on material being done to 458/4 spec eg 100mph gearboxes etc.

In other words, stuff the customer, we'll run shorter trains.

Few more pics i sat in first and standard couldn't tell the difference in comfort.
Left out at feltham certainly more comfortable than the 450 i got after would be a shame if they never got on PDL.

The seats look a good shape. Not bolt upright like the DfT seems to think we should all sit.

Your photos show quite clearly what wasn't covered with the refurb.
