Switching trains

I have an advance ticket that has two legs. For the vast majority of the journey the two trains overlap with the first train I'm on leading the second. At no point does the second train overtake the first.

From a logistical perspective I can change at any of 5 or so stations between the two trains.

My question: Do I /have/ to change at the specified station (on my adv reservation) or can I change between the specified trains at any of them?

What is the journey and what do the reservations say?

The reservations both specify one of the intermediate stations as their start/end. I'm just curious if I have to change at it or can do any of them?

If both legs have compulsory reservations then I think strictly speaking you will need to stick to your itinerary.

If the reservations are 'mandatory' then you are strongly advised to stick with what you've been given.

If the system wasn't offering you the optimum place to change trains, we could have tried to help you, but that's no longer possible if you've bought your ticket.

If you need to book a similar journey in future, then try buying from Take The Train (the frog site). It is generally good at allowing you the choice of where to change trains in situations like this, where the other sites often only offer one choice
