Does anyone know if you get any freebies such as drinks etc in Swiss first class, as you do over here?

What in the UK? Yes, you can

First class in Swissland is very comfortable. You can buy tickets onboard by upgrading and as all fares are charged by the mile it's easy. Basically its like it used to be here before savers etc.

Anyone can buy a ticket to anywhere, 1st or 2nd class, when onboard a train. There is a £2 surcharge on the ticket irrespective of distance.

No free tea or coffee however, it is Switzerland! However the tilting trains have 7 cars including a restaurant car and run as 14 car sets most of the time with both restaurants open. Train announcements take 30 seconds maximum on departure and they're in 4 languages.

It's quite well known, Fred. 1st class passengers on most services get complimentary tea/coffee.softdrinks and biscuits. Then there's Virgin's "Primo" which is luxurious food: all complimentary!!!

Not really free either, it's part of the service you're paying a premium for.

Exactly, which is why it's pointless having a First Class ticket on most MUs. With Virgin, then it suddenly becomes a much better deal. Granted, you're still paying huge amounts for what you get, but then it's better than scrumming into Standard.

Staying near Interlaken

Depending on how many days you intend staying in Switzerland, a 1st class pass is a must if you’re a train nut like myself. Points best to work out from are Brig, Luzern and Chur for the Eastern areas although Brig suits very well for Geneva. You’d be surprised by the comfort and the loneliness of a 1st class coach. If you do the Bernina Express, watch out for the two extra coaches they put on in Chur for the locals. No need to book for panoramic since these have drop windows for photos. Just a friendly tip and a cash saver?
