I wonder if anyone can help me with two questions I have about the present set of mileposts on the S&K Joint line. For a short piece of railway this line has an unusually complicated milepost history, but my questions relate only to what is there now.

Does anyone know when the line was re-measured and mileposted throughout from zero at Burton Salmon Junction? This must have been done after the middle of 1959 because one of the mileposts used would not have been available before then, but had certainly been completed before the issue of the 1969 Sectional Appendix.

Secondly, the "new" mileposts were in fact second-hand NER-style posts, some of them coming very clearly from lines that had been closed. The re-used full-mile posts according to D L Franks in his 1979 Dalesman book on the line are: 3 and 5 (zero Malton East Junction); 4 and 7 (zero Aire Junction); 6 (zero Staddlethorpe Junction); and 16 and 17 (zero Hull Alexandra Dock). Additionally, posts 8 to 15 inclusive are the old S&K posts from zero at Wath Road Junction but used in the reverse direction. All of this seems fine except for the use of a milepost 6 from Staddlethorpe as that post should be on a line still very much open, on plain double line a little to the north of Goole station. If this post is indeed from Staddlethorpe, how can it have been available for use?

Can anyone help?
