Swindon to High Wycombe

Hi all,

I'd like to go from Swindon to High Wycombe on November 17th. An advance ticket costs £25.60. Is there any cheaper possibility? I thought I go from Swindon to Reading by train for £6.70 and then from Reading to High Wycombe by bus (Arriva 800/850, no fare found).

Any comments?

Don't think you'll find a cheaper way than your Swindon - Reading - Wycombe one.
IF the timings worked out, you could go by Stagecoach bus 66 to Oxford, and then Red Rose bus 275 to Wycombe, but the latter is infrequent (only 4 journeys a day, Monday to Friday only, I think), and the slightly more frequent alternative for this part of the journey (National Express 737) is expensive. Don't know the price of the Red Rose ticket (not expensive, though), but I think a Swindon-Oxford return on the 66 would be a £6.50 West Explorer ticket

Swindon to Marlow advance singles also available for travel on 17th Nov priced at £6.70. There are two train changes involved; at Reading and Maidenhead. Probably about a 10-15 minute walk from railway station to bus stop with a single from Marlow to High Wycombe by bus costing about £3.00.The journey time is no more than 25 mins. May be quicker getting the bus from Reading but you save your self about £3 in coach/bus fare if travelling from Marlow. You could also buy a Swindon-Maidenhead advance and get a bus from Maidenhead to High Wycombe approx £4 -£5 single. Journey time 40-50 mins.

EDIT: Reading to High Wycombe by bus takes over an hour and costs approx £6
Swindon - Bourne End advance £6.70, change at Reading and Maidenhead . £3-4 bus fare to High Wycombe 30 minute journey.

Marlow to High Wycombe is £3.90 by bus.

The Bourne End option is quicker overall though.

Note that the bus station is about half a mile away from the rail station on High Wycombe, which might be more or less convenient for your final destination. The bus station is closer to the main shopping centre.

Other options to get to Wycombe from the great western mainline include Henley on Thames, Maidenhead and slough. Or getting a train from Reading to Banbury then getting a train to Wycombe.

I see many trains from Swindon to High Wycombe at a £15 Advance fare, the first one being at 12:11.

If there's no need to arrive before early afternoon and the small additional cost is affordable that seems a lot more convenient than some of the alternatives.

The Bourne End option is quicker overall though.

There is a bus stop in Bourne End outside the station. Bourne End is also the rail stop before Marlow.

So Swindon to Reading, Reading to Maidenhead, Maidenhead to Bourne End, Bourne End to High Wycombe (bus).

I'd say that train to Reading and then 800/850 will be most convenient. One change and the bus stop is just outside the station (follow RailAir then left and fifty metres along the road). I doubt it's slower than the alternatives, especially with the hourly frequency on the Marlow branch.

Looking at travelline fastest routes and timings vary depending on the train taken from Swindon. There seems to be no "best" option in terms of timings.
