The 1000 Kings Cross to Aberdeen was referred to as the "Swiftie Express" on the Kings Cross departure board due to carrying fans to the Taylor Swift concert in Edinburgh. Was this a publicity stunt for LNER?

A lot of the ECML services were pretty heavy loaded after Newcastle.

The 0922 and 1206 departures from Newcastle (TPE) were all full and standing (0922 from Berwick-upon-Tweed and 1206 from Newcastle).

Not sure about LNER but from what I seen they were pretty healthy loaded too.

With this many fans to move, could you imagine the bad blood if LNER didn’t make an effort? They’d certainly be seen as the anti-hero, and it would be a situation we’re know all too well.

Doubt there was a blank space on those trains judging by a photo my friend showed me!

It'd be a cruel summer indeed!

Whilst some might say the railway should've said no given they might not have been ready for it, I think it was a fearless decision to say they're ours and convey them in style more than 22 miles to their concert, helping to make their wildest dreams a reality.

Could you explain that?

Avanti will probs do something similar for when she plays in Liverpool and London.

I didn't and still don't, get the joke either; Not everyone is a Taylor Swift fan or knows her songs (despite which I acknowledge her talent and popularity).
Basically we are just making puns using her song names, I think she has over 250. Have a look at Scotrail's twitter feed, it's fun :D

I'm not the biggest Taylor Swift fan myself, I really like her pop hits but I haven't really listened to her other songs. Paramore, the support act, I recently became a fan of though!

Things like this are important to attract passengers on an ongoing basis, many times the special events (if the travel goes well) makes people realise it's good way to travel and in a lot of cases better than driving.

Did some problem with the rail network on the Fife side of the Forth Rail Bridge prevent 'Swifties' getting to Friday night's gig at Murrayfield, or did it all get fixed in time?

She is playing Anfield Thursday, Saturday and Sunday this week so Lime Street Station will be heaving.
Schedules at Edinburgh (ScotRail) and Cardiff (GW/TfW) were hugely enhanced to accommodate homebound concert goers after 23:30.
Meanwhile, the woeful efforts of LNWR, Avanti, TPE & Northern are so far showing only one additional service (TPE on Saturday only).
Likely to be a recipe for chaos and bitter disappointment.

Seeing as it was the 10:00 departure surely the Swift Scotsman would have been better?

With hotel rooms in Edinburgh going for around £800 a night and concert tickets at around £200, it makes me wonder about the so called "cost of living crisis"?

General admission standing tickets started at around £100.

Heaven forbid that even people who are finding things tight save up as best they can to go to something they'd enjoy....

I find that’s more something the media like to portray. I don’t notice much of a cost of living crisis, quite the opposite in fact.

Cost of living certainly isn’t just something the media has made up. It’s pretty hard to argue with inflation statistics, and those on prices of specific things. I’m glad that you haven’t been hit by it but many of us are struggling a lot more than we were a year ago.

I didn't realise she sings
My sister and I (both 60-somethings) thought we should find out why she's so popular with "the young folks" :).

So we watched five of her most popular song videos all the way through (on Youtube two days ago).

Verdict:
Plus: Pleasant enough. Inoffensive. Lively. Some good dance moves and locations in the videos.
Minus: Somewhat bland. Uninspired. Derivative (some tracks very similar to other artists, e.g. Lady Gaga, but not as good musically or as much fun).

Overall: "Shrug".

Living costs have gone up but there will always be people who find ways to prosper when others are struggling.

And there will always be others who pay those prices when there are better uses of the money. All supply and demand isn't it.

Presumably the Swiftie Express has left LNER now to go to Liverpool and Cardiff? I will keep an eye out for an Azuma.

There’s a much bigger divide now, especially since Covid. Those who can work from home generally will now have more disposable income as they save on transport costs and the lunchtime meal deal. Those who are working lower paid roles and that still had to go into a workplace will have less disposable income and are much more likely to be struggling.
There’s still millions of people in this country that have enough disposable income to go to a concert, but may still struggle financially on a month to month basis. I’d also imagine a decent chunk of people have used some kind of finance or credit to pay for it. And that’s not including those who have travelled from abroad to attend.
