For anyone interested, work seems to have begun on the refurbishment of Swansea's High Street station.

There was a great dela of banging and clattering behind some recently erected screens (at the side of WH Smith) on the concourse yesterday when I passed through.

Apparently work is due to be completed in August 2011.

Yes, that's it, there's been articles in magazines this year as well.

By the sounds of things yesterday, the work involves dismantling some of the later additions to that section of the concourse, which hasn't really been used for some time. It'll be interesting watching things develop! I imagine that side will be used as a temporary concourse while the other parts are being worked on.

Good, Swansea station is pretty dire on a rainy night....actually even on a sunny day.

Aren't there plans to redevelop the high street too?
Has to be one of the worst routes to a station in the UK.

There have been various plans to develop High St over the past dozen years. None has ever really come to anything. You're right, it really is dire! I think the only hope is if the area becomes more of a gay village, there are already a few gay venues in High St, perhaps one day it might rival San Francisco!

I go through Swansea a few times a year. It really is a pretty dark and dingy station! Any development is good news.
