Swansea Smoko?

G'day
On an Advance ticket from Elsenham to Lamphey, can I exit Swansea station for a smoke during the connection or do I just have to remain on the platform?

The train from Paddington and the train to Pembroke Dock are normally on adjacent platforms at Swansea.

I have done the journey many times, but the trains always had a short connection, so never bothered, this time I have about 30 mins.

Advice please.

You won't normally have a problem going out for a smoke, the barrier staff, if they are there when you are travelling, are very nice people!

What Greenback said.In fact I'd go further.If you have an advanced ticket and an earlier train is due to depart before the one stated on your ticket approach the guard/conductor and,more often than not,you will be able to continue your journey.We're not there to make life difficult for our customers,as long as seats are available in most cases you will be welcome.

The following week i am considering the 07:20 Lamphey to Manchester Picc direct train, which lays over at Swansea from 09:23 to 09:55, again plenty of time for a smoko at Swansea.

I'm just wondering if 7hrs on a DMU is good for my wellbeing, do they serve alcohol on this service, I may need it.

G'day yourself.

I don't actually work trains on this line but work for the same company.When I've travelled on these services a trolley normally joins the train at Newport (about 1 hr 20 min) from Swansea and sells beer,lager and spirits.The prices,however,will seem quite expensive,even allowing for the current strength of the Australian Dollar.

Our local rail service (V\Line) banned the sale of alcohol on trains, don't know why, most of those type of passengers had already had enough when they boarded, it's us oldies who liked a wine or a beer during the journey who have been dudded. :roll:

Shops outside the station selling all sorts of stuff, as well as a greasy spoon that does a good breakfast if you have the time.

DJ737, you will be able to stock up on cheaper alcohol at CK's supermarket opposite Swansea station and a little way up (to the right on exiting the station) High Street. It is the shop of choice for many of the local characters that hang aroudn the area for most of the day!

I can also recommend the Espresso cafe - they do, or at least they used to do, a Swansea bap, which is a bread roll containing your choice of 3 greasy breakfast items such as bacon, sausage, egg, hash brown, tomato, mushrooms! I used to have one from time to time and I could feel my arteries hardening with every bite!

Thanks for the info, no problems at Swansea yesterday arvo.
Saw the shop with the swansea bap advertised in the window, might try one next week, I'll have to consult my cardiologist first.

Decided to pass on the Swansea Bap, took the 07:09 Pembroke Dock-Manchester service as far as Stockport on 04/03/11 and again had no problems at Swansea for a smoko, this train was delayed at Newport for 25mins, no reason given other than an announcement that the train would now depart at 11:30 instead of 11:05. :roll:

The catering trolley was loaded at Carmarthen and I had a cup of something that was advertised as coffee, it was awful.

Although my ticket was an Advance to Manchester, I jumped off at Stockport where a Signalman who I hadn't seen for 20 years met me. Went to the Staylybridge buffet and was very impressed, seemed to be very popular on a saturday evening.

Anyway thanks to all who assisted with my queries.

There was no staff checking tickets at Stockport, anyway I had a return ticket from Stockport to Hazel Grove that I could have used if required.
