Swanage update?

Hi all,

Would anybody be able to provide an update as to what the state of play is in regards to through services from Wareham to Swanage? I know there was a couple of test runs but it's all gone very quiet.

Postponed until next year as the sr DMUs need major work. Was covered in the press early in the year.

This has been debated on this forum earlier. The situation is that ultrasonic testing on the DMU wheelsets have resulted in the decision that while they are safe under operation of a LRO (limited to 25mph), they have not been passed for passenger carrying on the national network.

There are spare wheelsets, but the SR could spend time and money only to find out that these are no better.

So they have opted for new wheelsets which also needs new bearings which are manufactured by specialists in the USA. Due to the timescale to manufacture and deliver a 2016 service to Wareham is not feasible, hence the decision to put back services to Wareham in 2017
