I couldn’t see a thread on this, so I thought I’d open one up.

Are there plans to release the loco allocs for the 3 main days anytime soon, or have they already done so and I’m looking in the wrong place?

Running almost the full length (9 miles!) of the track and overnight.
Guess most locos have arrived by now, some locos still to arrive by road, except pethsps Merchant Navy Class No. 35018 “British India Line” with 6 coaches which must be by mainline rail via Wareham?

That’s what I’ve already seen but it doesn’t show allocs for the individual trains on the 3 main days of the event

This must be the first time in over 60 years to have so many Pacifics (let alone Bulleids) in one place!

Saw 34053 heading towards Swanage on its own steam this evening - guessing it’s going to be ready for next weekend then.

Someone at SR must have seen your post, allocations now updated
Thank you very much for making me aware, planning starts now!

Or does it? Not even reached midday and I can’t believe that 34028 has been given 3 minutes at Swanage to transfer from one set to another. Is that really true or a mistake?

Looks like a problem, they might not have noticed as it is a fairly busy 3 train timetable.
Might be good to let the SR office know, so they can pass it on the the gala organisers for correction before the day.

Just seen 34072 272 Squadron being towed by 33111 down towards Swanage. Welcome home old friend. 33111 also seemed to be taking the ELR class 24 down to Corfe or Norden this morning as well

Had a reply from the SR and 34028 is working just the R Frome section top and tail in the morning timetable, so has some time to wait till the next train to run the section.

Swanage station has lots of people swapping between trains this morning (From the webcam) so it looks as though SB2 is going to be a success!

Had a great day at the event today, with a mix of travelling and walking. It was my first time at the railway and what an excellent sunny day for it!

Also major props to the other transport used today - staying in Bournemouth, got to Norden via train to Wareham then bus, then came back from Swanage to Bournemouth on the 50 Breezer over the Sandbanks Ferry.

Sadly 34081 failed again and spent the rest of the event cold.
Services were badly disrupted on Saturday following 2 passengers taken ill at Corfe, though I have to say I couldn't work out the rationale behind some later delays to services (nor did staff I spoke to have any information).
Today seems to have gone much better, apart from the first train which terminated short at Norden, to the disappointment of one or two photographers including me :(
Oh, and a small lineside fire.
That said, the whole event was excellent and I would go again if it were repeated.

PS the maroon WCR set hired in was the currently redundant Jacobite stock.

Apparently there was a very lengthy delay in the ambulance service attending one of those taken ill*. That person was close to the edge of the platform and could not be moved until they had been medically assessed which had an impact on running services.

* The issue in general of ambulance cover for the Isle of Purbeck is a hot potato as local residents feel they get a very poor service which puts lives in jeopardy.

Services this afternoon between Norden and the River Frome bridge were disrupted due to a lineside fire.

The first passenger who fell and broke her hip at Corfe was too close to the edge of platform 1 to run trains into that platform, and she couldn’t be moved until the ambulance arrived. Trains instead had to pass at Harmans, and because they weren’t timetabled to pass there it made every up train about 10 minutes later. Combine that with an earlier points failure at Norden delaying the 10:45 off Swanage by 25 minutes, and trespassers at Motala and you might be able to see how the delays racked up. Glad to hear you enjoyed it though.

Thanks for the clarifications - I was at Corfe soon after the ambulance arrived but didn't know about the other incidents. Good thing both loops are bidirectional these days!

A good friend of mine works for the ambulance service. One of the main problems with ambulances is that they often only able to deal with one call during a crew's entire shift. The crew come on duty, get called to an emergency, deal with this and take the patient to hospital and then the rest of their entire shift is spent attending to the patient in the ambulance whilst they wait outside A&E for a slot to enable the patient to be admitted. On some occasions the wait can be so long that eventually the crew has to be relieved.

This can present the problem of the crew being stranded at a hospital perhaps twenty miles from the ambulance station where they started their shift and where their cars are parked. In addition, the new relieving crew coming on shift are stranded at the ambulance station without their allotted vehicle.

This results in having to hire a taxi to take the relief crew to the hospital where the ambulance is stranded with the patient, with the taxi then having to bring the original crew back to the ambulance station.

Unless GPs can be properly funded to take the pressure off A&E services, ambulance services everywhere will remain very hit and miss.

It does rather beg the question if, for a very big event such as this, SRC should pay for a private paramedic or equivalent to be on site?

Id be surprised if they dont already have someone on site or arrangement with a local organisation. We do at Tenterden.
It doesnt mean however that the person will be moved before the ambulance arrives.

My understanding, based on a conversation with a member of station staff, is that they do not but that is taking their word at face value.

Yes I appreciate that it may not have altered the outcome in this specific instance.

That's OK for minor things, but a broken hip (or broken anything) can't be treated on site (I don't think). Unless the paramedic can also take the person to hospital and admit them (leaving no-one on site) I'm not sure it would help a great deal in situations like this.

The paramedic would be able to diagnose the issue and then act / escalate as appropriate. Obviously resolution would depend upon the exact nature of the issue to be resolved. It is also worth bearing in mind that the presence of a paramedic would reassure the casualty (and anyone travelling with them) and free up station staff to resume their regular duties.

It is also worth noting there were two other incidents at CC Station that day which required medical attention.

I agree that minor issues would benefit from an on-site paramedic.

I think the issue for the Swanage would be that you'd undoubtedly base an event paramedic at Swanage itself (most people). If you sent him/her to Corfe Castle by road its quite likely the ambulance would arrive before the paramedic but I obviously dont have any experience of likely response times in Purbeck.
