A delayed account of the Swanage diesel gala.
My day started with a train trip from Cosham to Wareham. First of all i had to get the train from Cosham to Fareham, to meet up with Paul1609.
Getting off at Fareham, i was reminded of it's borderline location between Portsmouth and Southampton, by the amount of scummers coming out of the wood work to support Scum in the Championship playoffs. I got on the train, a crowded 2 car 158, and found Paul. We decided to do abit of scummer baiting, but nobody bit
Changing trains again at Southampton Central, we laughed at the amount of closet supporters getting off the trains, before catching the Weymouth train along the Bournemouth branch, to Wareham.
Arriving at Wareham, we quickly found the bus stop and joined the queue, listening to the locals talk about tractors and cow tipping.
A quick bus journey to Corfe Castle and it was time to get off and walk the short distance to the station. We'd already seen glimpses of the railway on the bus and as we entered the station we found we were in time for the crossing of 2 trains.
I phoned 960012 and found out that him and Tom were on the train parked right in front of us, so we jumped on that for a ride to Norden.
It didn't take long to get to Nordon, and we all piled off to change trains and wait for the SWT VEP. By now the group had grown. We had, Me, Paul1609, 960012, Tom, Dennis and 73109.
After waiting around for it to arrive, we jumped on 3417 and found some seats. I'm not sure where this train took us to, as we wanted to goto Swanage, but had to change trains.
We joined another train, but this one served beer
When we got to Swanage, we were met on the platform by Metroland. I did try and persuade him to come for a ride, but he couldn't be swayed.
Back on the train and more beer. I think somewhere around this time, Jim appeared and joined our group.
Another trip to Norden, this time looking out for other RUK members. I reckon we saw, JulianG, Beaker and Nathan at least?
A few more round trips between Norden and Swanage and more beer. Our last train was a trip from Corfe Castle to Swanage on 3417. After this it was time to catch the bus back to Wareham.
A good day out and hopefully be able to repeat it next year
Shame that Coxster once again promised and didn't turn up.
